    Abstract: A prophylactic or a remedy for renal diseases comprises a hydrophilic solvent-extract of mushroom as an effective component. The hydrophilic solvent-extract of mushroom according to the present invention possesses an effect of markedly improving and maintaining the renal functions of undialyzed patients suffering from renal disease. Therefore, the extract permits the substantial elimination or retardation of the initiation of any dialytic therapy, which has conventionally been inevitable for the end-stage renal disease patients.
