Publication number: 20090129906Abstract: A wheelchair lift for use in conjunction with a vehicle having a floor. The lift includes a power-actuating system, a platform assembly having first and second platform sections, a linking assembly having first and second vertical arms connected to the platform assembly, and first and second fold-facilitating links connecting the first and second vertical arms, respectively, to the first and second platform sections. The linking assembly connects the power-actuating system to the platform assembly. During a folding process, the first and second fold-facilitating links cause the first platform section to pivot with respect to the second platform section and the first vertical arm to move with respect to the second vertical arm.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 7, 2008Publication date: May 21, 2009Applicant: RICON CORP.Inventors: Steven Fisher, Miguel Monge

Patent number: 7445416Abstract: A wheelchair lift for use in conjunction with a vehicle having a floor. The lift includes a power actuating system, a platform assembly having first and second platform sections, and a linking assembly connecting the power actuating system to the platform assembly. The linking assembly includes first and second vertical arms connected to the platform assembly. The platform assembly is movable between a fully extended configuration, a pre-stowed position and a stowed position. The first and second vertical arms are a first distance apart when the platform assembly is in the fully extended configuration and the pre-stowed position and a second distance apart when the platform assembly is in the stowed position. The second distance is less than the first distance.Type: GrantFiled: February 3, 2006Date of Patent: November 4, 2008Assignee: Ricon Corp.Inventors: Neil O'Leary, Michael J. Schmidt, Terrence Miller

Publication number: 20060104773Abstract: A foldable wheelchair ramp is disclosed having a mountable base, a first ramp section and a second ramp section. In an extended configuration, the first and second ramp sections form a single, continuous ramp for facilitating wheelchair access to vehicles. For convenient storage, the first and second ramp sections fold with respect to each other and preferably retract into the vehicle floor such that, in the folded configuration, the top surface of the second ramp section lies substantially in the same plane as the vehicle floor. A linking assembly is provided to facilitate and control the folding of the ramp sections. For safety purposes, the ramp also includes a lid that covers the gaps between the ramp and the vehicle floor when the ramp is in an extended position.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 12, 2005Publication date: May 18, 2006Applicant: Ricon Corp.Inventors: Dmitry Koretsky, Raymond Reynolds

Patent number: 4353436Abstract: A vehicle mounted lift device for moving a wheelchair and its occupant to and from the bed of the vehicle includes a mounting apparatus fixed to the bed of the vehicle and a support assembly movably mounted to the mounting apparatus for being pivotally or translationally movable between a storage position and an outwardly extending operating position. The support assembly has a vertically stationary assembly which includes a pair of support posts, a lead screw mounted to each support post, a motive device for rotating the lead screws and a synchronizing apparatus interconnected so that the lead screws rotate at the same rate. The vertically stationary assembly also includes a safety flap apparatus to prevent inadvertent movement of the wheelchair from the vehicle through the access opening. The support assembly also has a vertically movable assembly which includes a coupling post interconnected to each lead screw and a foldable platform assembly pivotally connected between the coupling posts.Type: GrantFiled: April 16, 1980Date of Patent: October 12, 1982Assignee: Ricon Corp.Inventors: Leonard L.
