Abstract: A system and method for distributed uploading of content utilizes one or more viewer systems, coupled over a network to a remote content source, to download content to the viewer system(s) at a first time and to retransmit at least a portion of the received content to a remote storage system along with authorization/identification indicia identifying the viewer system. In one embodiment, fractional portions of the same content program from multiple different viewer systems are aggregated at the remote storage system for subsequent download streaming to a requesting of the viewer system for viewing thereby at a second time, which is time-shifted from the initial transmission from the content source.

Abstract: A collaborative cloud DVR system (ccDVR), which includes a cloud storage system and a plurality of participating DVR client devices, acts collaboratively as a single communal entity in which community members authorize each other to upload, remotely store and download licensed content for time shifted viewing, in a manner which rigorously protects legal rights of the content owners while overcoming the potential physical obstacles of limited bandwidth, power failures, incomplete uploads/downloads of content, limited cloud storage capacity, etc. The collaborative cloud DVR community collaboratively shares bandwidth and cloud storage capacity among DVR viewer/users with each owner/user of a DVR client device authorizing his or her individual DVR client device to be utilized by a cloud storage system server and any other owner/user of a DVR client device in the respective service community, and receiving similar permission in return to promote the convenience of cloud storage in an authorized manner.

The neuropsychological modeling engine utilizes metafiles associated with content objects, a purchaser/viewer model and a channel model to derive a value ? representing an individual's mood and a value m representing an individual's motivational strength to select a content object. If the value ? is within an acceptable predetermined range, the value m is used to determine a ranking for the content object relative to other content objects associated with the channel model.
