  • Patent number: 5489137
Abstract: A trailer for transporting articles which, if laid flat, would cause the trailer to exceed the maximum highway width requirements imposed by state and federal highway regulations. The trailer includes a frame structure with a number of article spaces which slope continuously upward from a first, loading side to the opposite side of the trailer. Each article space is formed by a pair of rail subassemblies, each including a sloping transverse rail member with a first, lower end located in proximity to the trailer loading side and a second, upper end located in proximity to the trailer opposite side. Articles for which the trailer is designed include pick-up covers, which, if laid flat with their longitudinal axis perpendicular to that of the trailer, would exceed the highway maximums. With the pick-up covers loaded into the continuously sloped spaces, the trailer meets the highway standards.

  • Patent number: 5466103
Abstract: An article unloading system for unloading articles from an article rack includes a pair of unloading ramps which are removably and pivotably attached to the rack beneath an upper article slot in the rack. The ramps are connected by a cross-member which is connected to a jack. A workman's platform is also removably attachable to the rack below the connection point of the ramps, and the jack is connected between the ramps and the platform. An article is slid from the upper article slot onto the ramps and latched into place. The ramps are then lowered via the jack to a position in which the article can be easily reached, the latch is remotely released and the article is off-loaded. The article rack can be a specialized rack with multiple stacked slots for carrying pickup truck covers and the articles to be unloaded can be pickup truck covers from upper slots within the rack.

  • Patent number: 5273337
Abstract: An article rack includes a frame structure with a top, a bottom, a front, a back, a first side and a second side. The frame structure first side includes an opening. The frame structure further includes a plurality of rail subassemblies each including a transverse rail member with a first, lower end located in proximity to the frame structure first side opening and an upper, second end located in proximity to the frame structure second side. The rail member slopes upwardly from its first end to its second end. Respective pairs of rail assemblies are associated with article receiving spaces which are accessible through the opening in the frame structure first side. An enclosure system opening can be selectively closed by a cover or door assembly. The article rack can be mounted on a truck or trailer chassis.
