Patent number: 5503610Abstract: A synchronous/asynchronous exercise machine is changeable between a synchronous exercise mode wherein a user's limbs, such as his legs, oppositely reciprocate, and an asynchronous exercise mode wherein the user's limbs move independently. The synchronous/asynchronous exercise machine may comprise a first movable element for accepting a user's limb, and a second movable element for accepting another limb. A load source against which the user can exercise may also be provided. A first drive belt operatively connects the first movable element to the load source, and a second drive belt operatively connects the second movable element to the load source. A quick change mechanism, which may be connected to the first movable element, is releasably engagable with the second drive belt for changing the synchronous/asynchronous exercise machine between the synchronous exercise mode and the asynchronous exercise mode.Type: GrantFiled: June 2, 1995Date of Patent: April 2, 1996Assignee: Roadmaster CorporationInventors: Jeffrey D. Patent number: 5460396Abstract: A derailleur mounting assembly for a bicycle having a rear wheel suspension includes a chain stay having a first end connected to a bicycle crank in a manner so as to pivot about the crank axis, and a derailleur mounted on the chain stay. The chain stay is operable to pivot about the crank axis when the rear wheel suspension allows a rear wheel to move. This allows the derailleur to be maintained in a stationary position with respect to a bike chain extended between the bicycle crank and a sprocket attached to a rear wheel.Type: GrantFiled: June 7, 1993Date of Patent: October 24, 1995Assignee: Roadmaster CorporationInventors: Edmund E. Sutter, George E. Clarke

Patent number: 5443434Abstract: A quiet air resistance exercise cycle has a number of sound reduction features in its preferred embodiments. Soundproofing material is used on the inside of the housing surrounding the wheel to absorb sound. The housing comprises solid panels to limit air from outside the housing from contacting the wheel. The housing panels generally defining a polyhedron to create dead spaces for air eddies inside the wheel compartment. The wheel may also include a pitch reduction material and preferably is belt driven.Type: GrantFiled: September 7, 1993Date of Patent: August 22, 1995Assignee: Roadmaster CorporationInventors: Matthew D. Buchanan, Jeffrey D. Metcalf, Craig A. Topp

Patent number: 5388797Abstract: A novel mounting bracket for pivotally attaching a glide ride to a playground set superstructure comprises a protective member, and a mounting flange connectable with the protective member for fixedly securing the superstructure between the protective member and the mounting flange. The mounting bracket comprises a sole connection between the glide ride and the superstructure. A pivotal connection between the glide ride and the protective member is formed on the protective member. The protective member is dimensioned for providing a protective clearance around the pivotal connection.Type: GrantFiled: December 28, 1992Date of Patent: February 14, 1995Assignee: Roadmaster CorporationInventors: Richard Trevino, Michael Wood

Patent number: 5314207Abstract: A bicycle with simulated motorcycle parts includes a shroud attachable to the bicycle. The shroud has a center portion simulating a gas tank and a rear fender portion extending over the rear wheel. The shroud is configured to fit around the seat tube of the bicycle and preferably completely covers the top tube of the bicycle. In one embodiment, a fairing mounted in front of the handlebars simulates a fairing on a motorcycle.Type: GrantFiled: June 10, 1992Date of Patent: May 24, 1994Assignee: Roadmaster CorporationInventors: David K. Patent number: 5308301Abstract: A foldable stair climber exercise machine includes a central frame having a main support beam, a second support pivotally connected to the main support beam, and a cross-member pivotally connected to the second support and removably connected to the main support. Stepping members on opposite sides of the central frame are pivotally connected to the second support and are connected by a flexible linkage. Air cylinders are removably connected to the stepping members and pivotally connected to the frame. Because the frame members are easily disconnected and pivotal with respect to each other, and because the air cylinders are easily disconnected from the stepping members, the disclosed stair climber is easily folded to a flattened assemblage for storage.Type: GrantFiled: April 29, 1992Date of Patent: May 3, 1994Assignee: Roadmaster CorporationInventor: Matt Chiarello

Patent number: 5290212Abstract: An exercise cycle includes a frame having a front wheel assembly and handlebars. The front wheel assembly includes a fan wheel having side plates one of which has an intake port, and an intake assembly around the intake port, the intake assembly having openings which may be opened and closed. By opening and closing the intake openings, the resistance of the wheel to the air can be varied without changing the rotational rate of the wheel. The handlebars of the exercise cycle are pivotally connected to the cycle intermediate their ends. The lower ends of the handlebars are pivotally connected to a cam arm which is removably connected to the shaft to which the pedal is mounted. By connecting or disconnecting the cam arm to or from the pedal shaft, the handlebars can be selectively moved between a stationary mode and a mode in which the handlebars reciprocate between forward and backward positions.Type: GrantFiled: September 3, 1991Date of Patent: March 1, 1994Assignee: Roadmaster CorporationInventor: Jeffrey D.
