  • Patent number: 6445129
Abstract: A gaseous-discharge lamp, in particular for motor-vehicle headlamps, includes a burner vessel made of glass or the like that contains a gas. Into this burner vessel extend two main electrodes via two gas-tight electrode bushings. Between the end regions of the main electrodes arranged in the burner vessel, an arc gap is formed, along which an electric arc develops during operation. To achieve a smallest possible ignition voltage, an arrangement is provided for producing a creepage spark gap along the inner vessel wall and/or a spark gap that is shorter than the arc gap, serving as an ignition gap that is spatially separated from the arc gap.

  • Patent number: 6446024
Abstract: A mass value is determined which represents the mass of a vehicle. The vehicle includes a drive unit and a clutch unit. By the disengagement of the clutch unit, the force flow between the drive unit and the vehicle wheels can be essentially interrupted. At least a first acceleration value is detected which represents the vehicle acceleration at a first time point. Furthermore, at least a first drive value is detected which represents the drive force or the drive torque of the drive unit at the first time point. At least a second acceleration value is detected which represents the vehicle acceleration at a second time point whereat the clutch unit is disengaged. A comparison then takes place of the detected second acceleration value with at least one pregivable threshold value. The determination of the mass value takes place at least in dependence upon the comparison and at least in dependence upon the detected first acceleration value and the detected first drive value.

  • Patent number: 6445283
Abstract: Method for allocating a remote controller to a base station, having the following steps: emission of a search signal by the base station, reception of the search signal, comparison with a reference signal, and emission of a “present” signal by the actuation element if the search signal matches the reference signal. If no “present” signal arrives in response to a search signal, emission of a search signal by the base station is repeated after a repetition time has elapsed. Execution of the method is accomplished by way of a base station which has means for detecting the time Ts that has elapsed since emission of a search signal, and by way of a remote controller which switches from an idle state into an active state upon arrival of a search signal.

  • Patent number: 6445168
Abstract: A power output circuit having a pulse-width modulation generator and an upstream closed-loop control circuit which switches the pulse-width modulation generator and the power output stage to a permanently open mode, a PWM mode having pulse-width-modulated pulses, and a permanently closed mode as a function of a preset external setpoint, an actual value of the power output stage, and a reference voltage derived from the supply voltage. High power loss and high EMC in the full-load threshold region are avoided by prematurely switching from the PWM mode to the permanently closed mode as a function of a preset setpoint and the supply voltage, and returning to the PMW mode with a hysteresis of these values.

  • Patent number: 6443008
Abstract: A gyroscope system including multiple rotating or oscillating disks filters out disturbance acceleration inputs such as vibrations or jarring while detecting and measuring external angular velocity. The gyroscope disks are decoupled from a substrate to decrease the impact of external vibrations on the gyroscope operation. The gyroscope disks are rotated in opposite directions or oscillated out of phase to decrease the impact of disturbance vibrations and jarring while more accurately measuring external angular velocities applied to the system.

  • Patent number: 6439198
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for combustion misfire detection in multi-cylinder internal combustion engines. In the method, rough-running values for each cylinder of the engine are determined individually for each crankshaft rotation by measuring the segment times. The segment times include the times corresponding to the piston movement of each cylinder to be measured during which times the crankshaft passes through a corresponding circular segment angular region and, on the basis of filtered rough-running values, equalization or corrective factors are computed for each cylinder in an evaluation unit for influencing injection times or injection time points of each individual cylinder. The determined rough-running values (LUT) or the filtered rough-running values (FLUT) are compared in a desired value comparison to a threshold value (SW2) which is pregiven in value significantly less than the threshold value (SW1) for misfire detection.

  • Patent number: 6439263
Abstract: The pressure regulating valve (2) proposed here can be designed with the aid of the outflow throttle restriction (28) downstream of the valve seat (22) in such a way that the pressure regulating valve (2), as the fluid flow becomes greater, sets or adjusts a smaller pressure difference at the pressure regulating valve (2), as a result of which the line losses that can never be avoided can be compensated for. The pressure regulating valve is suitable in particular for a fuel supply system of a motor vehicle having an internal combustion engine.
