Patent number: 6910342Abstract: A manual reset high temperature limit thermostat is provided. The manual reset lockout feature is provided by a lock rod that is outwardly transitioned upon actuation of the thermostat when the sensed temperature reaches its high level limit. A manual reset reset slide then engages the lock rod to prevent automatic resetting of the thermostat once the sensed temperature decreases below the thermostat set point. Resetting of the thermostat once the temperature has decreased may be accomplished by sliding the switch to disengage the reset slide from the locking rod. The thermostat internal snap action mechanism then retracts the lock rod and resets the thermostat's electrical contacts.Type: GrantFiled: October 14, 2003Date of Patent: June 28, 2005Assignee: Robertshaw Controls CompanyInventors: Mark I. Publication number: 20040066096Abstract: A program timer for use with commercial or consumer appliances provides a single user knob interface that allows the desired selection of a programmed cycle and a push-to-start function. To preclude inadvertent program operation and enhance the life of the program timer, a snap-action switch is utilized to provide the push-to-start functionality. As such, actuation of the start switch provides a positional hysteresis that prevents teasing of the switch. The rapid snap-action opening and closing of the switch contacts precludes or minimizes the arc sustained between the contacts so as to greatly increase the life of the start switch. In one embodiment an actuation wheel larger in diameter than the program cam stack of the timer is utilized to pivot a lever to actuate the snap-action switch.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 7, 2002Publication date: April 8, 2004Applicant: Robertshaw Controls CompanyInventors: James E. Pearson, Jack D. Rodesiler

Patent number: 6694753Abstract: A device and method for automatically defrosting a refrigeration system only during times of non-peak energy demand. The device is a defrost delay module that plugs into the current defrost timer supplied with frost-free refrigerators. The defrost delay module includes a microprocessor that utilizes a clock to define peak power consumption periods. If the defrost cycle will occur during a peak power period, the delay module interrupts the normal operation and prevents defrosting of a refrigerator or freezer until the peak power periods has passed. The delay module is able to learn the operating characteristics of the defrost timer such that the delay module can be retrofit to existing appliances.Type: GrantFiled: July 16, 2002Date of Patent: February 24, 2004Assignee: Robertshaw Controls CompanyInventors: Douglas C.
