Patents Assigned to Robin Hood Multifoods Inc.
  • Patent number: 4938972
Abstract: The invention provides a process for the microbial bioconversion of cereal milling by-products into proteinaceous material for human consumption. The by-products are aerobically fermented in a culture of the fungus Neurospora sitophila in the presence of suitable temperature, pH and nutrient conditions, for a time sufficient to grow microbial biomass protein.

  • Patent number: 4931297
Abstract: This invention relates to a method for sterilization and preservation of food utilizing a blend of food acidulants. Adding blends of glucono-delta-lactone and adipic acid, with or without malic acid and/or citric acid will lower the pH of the food without the expected consequence of proportionately increasing the acidic flavor of the food product. This permits processing the food under milder conditions (heating or otherwise) resulting in a better quality food product more acceptable to consumers. The acidulant blends of the present invention also have application in the preparation of non-food consumer products.

  • Patent number: 4919952
Abstract: Food grade protein and dietary fibre concentrates are prepared from wheat millfeed. The process utilizes an efficient alkali extraction to obtain in excess of 75% w/w of the protein present in the millfeed in a solution which is further treated to separate the suspended starch and fat. The clarified liquid containing the protein is passed over a semipermeable membrane during which it is further purified and concentrated. Hydrogen peroxide and heat are introduced to the liquid thereby reducing its color prior to spray drying. The resulting residue from the extraction is dried or further treated with hydrogen peroxide and heat to produce a light colored dietary fibre concentrate.

  • Patent number: 4407839
Abstract: This invention relates to an improved dusting blend and the use of such a blend in a baking process. The improvement resides in the addition of salt to the dusting blend to retard insect infestation while at the same time retaining good flowability characteristics. The dusting blend is applied to cooking or baking equipment, as a dusting powder, to prevent food or dough from sticking to the equipment. The dusting blend of this invention controls insect infestation far better than known dusting blends comprising flour or starch.
