    Abstract: A filesystem-aware storage system locates and analyzes host filesystem data structures in order to determine storage usage of the host filesystem. To this end, the storage system might locate an operating system partition, parse the operating system partion to locate its data structures, and parse the operating system data structures to locate the host filesystem data structures. The storage system manages data storage based on the storage usage of the host file system. The storage system can use the storage usage information to identify storage areas that are no longer being used by the host filesystem and reclaim those areas for additional data storage capacity. Also, the storage system can identify the types of data stored by the host filesystem and manage data storage based on the data types, such as selecting a storage layout and/or an encoding scheme for the data based on the data type.

    Abstract: A system for cutting windows or openings in mats used in framing works of art. The system involves the use of a variably positionable head to which a cutting blade is attached for cutting a beveled edge in the mat. A longitudinal drive means, transverse drive means, and orthogonal drive form a combined positioning device capable of moving the head in any direction. A rotational drive means may also form part of the combined positioning device for rotating and adjusting the position of the blade. A linear variable displacement transducer is coupled to the head and operatively coupled to the orthogonal drive to maintain the head a constant distance away from the mat so the blade cuts a continuously smooth beveled edge in the mat.

    Abstract: A low cost cam controlled mechanical positioning apparatus for automatically tracing out a predetermined path of movement for the working head of a machine tool or the like is described. The apparatus comprises a set of two large diameter disc type control-drive cams secured in parallel planes on a common drive shaft rotatably supported on a base member and driven by an electric motor through suitable gearing. Respective cam followers engage cam surfaces formed on the undersides of the large diameter control-drive disc cams and are connected to respective linkages for translating movement of the cam follower to a working head to thereby move the working head in a predetermined path of movement in an x-y plane. A working head supporting boom is secured to a transport mechanism which is movably supported on wheel and track elements and mounted for movement along respective x and y axes by the respective linkages driven by the cam followers.
