  • Patent number: 7047191
Abstract: System, method and computer-readable medium containing instructions for providing AV signals with open or closed captioning information. The system includes a speech-to-text processing system coupled to a signal separation processor and a signal combination processor for providing automated captioning for video broadcasts contained in AV signals. The method includes separating an audio signal from an AV signal, converting the audio signal to text data, encoding the original AV signal with the converted text data to produce a captioned AV signal and recording and displaying the captioned AV signal. The system may be mobile and portable and may be used in a classroom environment for producing recorded captioned lectures and used for broadcasting live, captioned lectures. Further, the system may automatically translate spoken words in a first language into words in a second language and include the translated words in the captioning information.

  • Patent number: 6895830
Abstract: A system and method for testing at least one joint in a linkage includes a platform system, a torque system, an articulation assembly and a fault detection system. The platform system receives a first shaft connected to a first joint in the linkage and the torque system applies torque to the first joint without substantially rotating the first shaft or joint, a second shaft connected to a second joint in the linkage or the second joint. The articulation assembly receives the second shaft and moves the second joint in a substantially circular path without substantially rotating the first shaft or joint and the second shaft or joint. The fault detection system determines the condition of the linkage based upon detected signals emitted from the linkage while the first joint is torqued and the second joint is moved.

  • Patent number: 6638627
Abstract: A method for electrostatic bonding includes placing a first region of a first unit at least adjacent to a first region of a second unit. The first region of the first unit has trapped charge. A bond between the first region of the first unit and the first region of the second unit is formed by the electrostatic forces between the trapped charge and induced charge in the first region of the second unit. A system for electrostatic bonding includes a first unit having a first region with trapped charge and a second unit with a first region with induced charge. Electrostatic forces between the trapped charge in the first region of the first unit and the induced charge in the first region of the second unit bond the first and second units together.

  • Patent number: 6577395
Abstract: A method, apparatus and computer-readable medium allows users to measure a lighting condition of an object. In one embodiment, at least one user visually compares colored materials against a displayed color sample. Users may adjust the color of the displayed color sample by changing corresponding attribute values until the displayed color sample appears to substantially match the colored material. Once users indicate that they have established a color match between a displayed color sample and a colored material, the spectral irradiance value of the substantially matched color sample is calculated. The spectral irradiance value represents a measurement of the lighting condition in a particular room.
