  • Publication number: 20150226056
Abstract: A circuit for processing data associated with a well may include a power port that receives an input voltage and a processor. The processor may receive data associated with one or more properties of the well and a well device configured to control a flow of hydrocarbons extracted from the well. The processor may also receive a value that corresponds to the input voltage. The processor may then operate in a first power mode when the value is not greater than a threshold, such that the first power mode may limit one or more processes performed by the processor to conserve power.

  • Publication number: 20150226051
Abstract: A method for locally performing a well test may include receiving, at a processor, data associated with a flow of hydrocarbons directed into an output pipe via a multi-selector valve configured to couple to one or more hydrocarbon wells. The method may also include determining one or more virtual flow rates of the liquid and gas components based on the data. The method may then send a signal to a separator configured to couple to the output pipe, wherein the signal is configured to cause the separator to perform a well test for a respective well when the virtual flow rates of the liquid and gas components do not substantially match well test data associated with the respective well, wherein the well test data comprises one or more flow rates of the liquid and gas components determined during a previous well test for the respective well.

  • Publication number: 20150226062
Abstract: A system may include a well device to control a flow of hydrocarbons extracted from a well and a monitoring device to receive data associated with one or more properties of the well and the well device. The monitoring device is disposed on the well device and receives pressure data and temperature data associated with the well device. The monitoring device may then determine an inflow performance relationship, a tubing performance relationship, a choke performance relationship, and a wellhead performance relationship, or any combination thereof based on the pressure data and the temperature data. The monitoring device may also generate at least one plot that illustrates the inflow performance relationship, the tubing performance relationship, the choke performance relationship, and the wellhead performance relationship, or any combination thereof. The monitoring system may then display the at least one plot on a display device disposed on the monitoring system.

  • Patent number: 9054863
Abstract: Aspects of the present invention provide machines, systems, and methods in which industrial control systems may be secured from compromise and/or disruption via authentication and firewall. In particular, an industrial controller may: randomly generate an exchange key and send the exchange key to a client device in response to a transaction request originating from the client device; combine the exchange key with a locally stored pass key to produce an authentication code; and compare a challenge key received from the client device to the authentication code to determine a match between the challenge key and the authentication code. A successful match between the challenge key and the authentication code may allow the client device to further access the industrial controller using a common industrial protocol (CIP), and a failed match between the challenge key and the authentication code may prevent the client device from further access to the industrial controller.

  • Publication number: 20150134086
Abstract: Present embodiments include a system and method for providing an input-driven, switching-enabled display device for an automation controller. The display device may include a communication interface port, such as a universal serial bus (USB) port, which is installed in the display device so that it may be easily accessible by a user. The port may increase a user's productivity and efficiency by reducing the time it takes to connect a PC to the automation controller. The display device may also include an interface switch that performs display functionality or port adapter functionality based upon whether a port connection and/or port communication traffic are detected. Thus, embodiments may enable the display device to act as both a text display and a gateway to configure the automation controller with a personal computer (PC) through the use of the easy access port.

  • Patent number: 8996327
Abstract: An I/O circuit for measuring temperatures uses multiple cold-junction compensation sensors permanently affixed near the terminals of the terminal block in order to compensate significant temperature variation across the terminals of the I/O module (up to 3° C.) that can substantially affect the accuracy of thermocouple measurements. The use of these multiple sensors is enabled by a compensation system that corrects for the distance between the built-in sensors and the terminals, a multiplexer that accommodates the additional signal burden produced by the sensors, and a compensation system that allows low-cost sensors to be used and calibrated to as little as a single high accuracy sensor. In one embodiment, a third temperature sensor with relatively higher accuracy is used to compensate for lower accuracy of permanently affixed sensors.
