    Abstract: A system and related method for simulating IR halos in a computer graphics display generates a set of halo candidates corresponding to each new scene by scanning the frame buffer for that scene to flag pixels associated with unocculted light sources as halo candidates, or prospective halo centers around which simulated halos are to be drawn. The system adjusts the defocus value of flagged halo candidates based on their pixel distance and determines whether identified halo centers are new, continuing, or expired by comparing the current scene and its halo candidate list to the preceding (currently displayed) image and its list of current halo centers. The system generates a dual visible/IR image, adding IR-only polygonal halos to the identified halo centers based on pixel attributes. The dual image is projected for viewing by night vision goggles, which the IR-only image and component halos will stimulate.

The method additionally includes selecting a frequency from the unused frequencies, the selected frequency to be used for communication of messages from another node of the MANET to the node via the second receiver. The method further includes transmitting, to the other node, a message including information of the selected frequency via the transmitter.

    Abstract: A weather radar system for an aircraft includes a weather radar system and a processing circuit. The weather radar system is configured to determine weather data, the weather data including an indication of precipitation at a plurality of altitudes, a plurality of azimuth angles, and at a plurality of ranges from the aircraft. The processing circuit is configured to receive the weather data from the weather radar system and generate an overhead display from an overhead perspective based on the weather data. The overhead display visually illustrates the precipitation at a particular distance from the aircraft and at a particular azimuth angle. The processing circuit is configured to generate a face-on on display based on the weather data and cause a display screen to display the overhead display and the face-on display. The face-on display visually illustrates a particular altitude of the precipitation and the azimuth angle of the precipitation.

    Abstract: A method of determining the angular orientation of headgear is described. The headgear has tracking points being at least four tracking points, the relative position of the tracking points is calibrated and stored as relative position information, each of the tracking points comprises an infra-red (IR) reflective point. Light reflected from at least some of the tracking points of the headgear is filtered to allow only light in an IR wavelength band to pass. The filtered IR light is imaged to provide a detected image including at least some of the tracking points. At least some of the tracking points in the detected image are identified, and the position of the identified tracking points in the detected image is determined. The angular orientation of the headgear is determined in multiple different angular directions based on the stored relative position information and the position of the identified tracking points.

    Abstract: An adjustable friction brake assembly may adjust a variable amount of frictional force required to translate or rotate a shaft, rather than merely locking or unlocking the shaft. The brake assembly includes a housing for internally receiving the shaft, the external portion of the housing including external threading leading into circumferentially spaced fingers extending axially and oriented radially inward to engage the shaft. The brake assembly includes a rotatable adjuster having an internally threaded throughbore for engaging the housing and directing the fingers radially inward to engage the shaft, thereby increasing the required frictional force. For example, by rotating the adjuster clockwise, the required force can be increased; similarly, by rotating the adjuster counterclockwise, the required force can be decreased.

    Abstract: A system and related method for encrypting HFDL position reports of an aircraft involves determining the position of the aircraft based on signals received from navigational satellites and generating data packets based on the position and an aircraft identifier such as an ICAO address. The data packets are encrypted for transmission to HF ground stations as a position report normally would be (e.g., as a performance diagnostic packet or a frequency diagnostic packet). However, the encrypted position data can only be decrypted by a control key provided to traffic control authorities or a subscriber key provided to the aircraft owner or authorized personnel. Only holders of the control key or subscriber key may decode the aircraft position and track the aircraft's heading or position.

An exemplary harmonic adsorption recuperative power cycle system offers more efficient power generation as compared with conventional ORC systems. A multibed adsorption system is used to provide thermal compression for the cycle. An adsorption compressor contains a sorbent with strong adsorption affinity for the working fluid in the pores while well outside the P-T conditions needed to condense the liquid phase, allowing the adsorption compressor to reduce operating pressure exiting the expander.

The signal processing device can group covariance matrices from the N covariance matrices into groups of M covariance matrices. Each group can correspond to a respective group of M adjacent bins from the N bins. The signal processing device can produce a combined spatial covariance matrix for each group of M covariance matrices, by performing a weighted combination of covariance matrices within the respective group of M covariance matrices. The signal processing device can calculate spatial weights from each of the spatial covariance matrices, for anti-jamming processing.
