  • Patent number: 5949633
Abstract: A transformer over-voltage protection circuit shuts down a resonant inverter when high voltages occur at the output of a transformer. The high voltages can be caused by a broken or removed display tube. The system is designed to be used in display system, such as, an active matrix liquid crystal display (AMLCD). The system senses the voltage at the output of the transformer by utilizing a tickler or a tertiary winding. The signal from the tertiary winding is rectified and compared to a threshold. If the signal from the tertiary winding is greater than the threshold, the inverter is shut down for a period of time.

  • Patent number: 5949760
Abstract: A method for establishing simultaneous communications between nodes having neighboring nodes in a multi-hop network of transceiver nodes arranged in neighborhoods includes determining the quality of communication links between the nodes of a neighborhood and adjacent neighborhoods. A table of quality data is stored representing the quality of communication links between nodes of the neighborhood for each node. A set of performance criterion of desired service in the neighborhood is stored. A set of possible link assignments between ones of the nodes in the neighborhood is generated from the table of quality data based upon a maximized performance criterion of desired service in the neighborhood. Link assignments are then allocated between nodes of the neighborhood based upon the desired performance criterion.

  • Patent number: 5940027
Abstract: A global positioning system (GPS) receiver and high accuracy low power time source (HAL) are disclosed. The HAL provides a time source having an accuracy which is high enough for the receiver to achieve fast direct Y-code acquisition. The HAL includes an oscillator adapted to provide an uncompensated frequency signal at a desired frequency. Frequency conversion circuitry receives the uncompensated frequency signal and a control signal as inputs, and provides as an output a compensated frequency signal having an average compensated frequency which is closer to the desired frequency than is the average uncompensated frequency. A temperature sensor provides an output indicative of a temperature of the oscillator. Frequency error determining circuitry determines an error value, as a function of the temperature sensor output, which is indicative of a quantity of frequency error over time in the uncompensated frequency signal.

  • Patent number: 5923743
Abstract: A single-wire telephone distribution system is directed to use in passenger aircraft. It includes a set of twisted pair cables, electronics distribution boxes and repeaters. A single-wire transmission path is defined to enter and leave each distribution box at least once. The path is arranged so that its portions between distribution boxes occur in pairs and each path pair is formed by one of the twisted pair cables. A repeater is inserted into the transmission path prior to each of its exits from the distribution boxes. The repeaters regenerate the data signals to remove noise and jitter. Additionally, the regenerated signals have controlled rising and falling slopes to control signal emissions from the distribution system. A limited number of twisted pair cable sets are typically available in passenger aircraft cabins for passenger services. By using only a single set, the distribution system of the invention facilitates the incorporation of additional services into the aircraft cabin.

  • Patent number: 5923746
Abstract: A call recording system and method records telephone calls routed by a telephonic switch 104 to agents located at computer terminals 108. A call information circuit 110 associated with the telephonic switch 104 detects information, such as DNIS via a DNIS circuit 112 and/or information provided by the caller, relating to the telephone calls. The computer terminal 108 includes a recording device 114 which records the telephone calls based on the call information relating to the calls. The recordings of the calls are stored in a storage device 116. To facilitate later replaying a call, a call sequence indicator 118 attaches a call sequence number to a recording of telephone call. Alternatively, or in addition to, a call time indicator 118 attaches a time and day indicator to the recording based on when the call was received. An automatic recorder 122 automatically records specified telephone calls based on the call information.

  • Patent number: 5923456
Abstract: An electrochemical mirror includes a transparent first electrode and a second electrode distributed in localized areas. An electrolytic solution is disposed between the first and second electrodes and contains ions of a metal which can electrodeposit on the first and second electrodes. A negative electrical potential applied to the first electrode causes deposited metal to be dissolved from the second electrode into the electrolytic solution and to be electrodeposited from the solution onto the first electrode, thereby affecting the propagation of electromagnetic radiation through the mirror. A surface modification layer applied to the first electrode ensures that the electrodeposit is substantially uniform, resulting in a mirror layer which increases the reflectivity of the mirror.
