Patents Assigned to ROLLS-ROYCE POWER ENGINEERING
  • Patent number: 10060763
Abstract: A sensor assembly for indicating the relative location of a metallic object. The sensor assembly including a primary electromagnetic coil arranged to generate a time varying magnetic field, and a secondary electromagnetic coil arranged to detect the time varying magnetic field as affected, directly or indirectly, by the object and to output, on the basis of the detected time varying magnetic field, a signal indicative of the relative location of the object. At least one of the primary and secondary electromagnetic coils is wound about a core body formed of a material having the same conductivity and/or magnetic permeability as the object.

  • Publication number: 20170293275
Abstract: Apparatus for enabling remote control of one or more devices, the apparatus comprising: a controller configured to: receive position data for a sensed position of an operator within a first volume; control a display located in a second volume, different to the first volume, to display a representation of at least a portion of the operator within a representation of at least a portion of the first volume, using the received position data; receive user input data from a user input device located in the second volume; and control a first device located at the first volume, using the received user input data to perform a first action.

  • Publication number: 20170219154
Abstract: An arrangement for use in adjoining a support structure to a pipe that passes through the support structure. The arrangement comprises a mount attachable to the support structure. Radial bellows are connected to the mount. The bellows are arranged in use to extend circumferentially around a pipe and be connectable thereto such that a volume is defined by the bellows, mount and pipe.

  • Publication number: 20150369584
Abstract: A sensor assembly for indicating the location of a leadscrew relative to a probe tube, the leadscrew forming part of a nuclear control rod and the probe tube being moveably connected to the leadscrew. The sensor assembly including a primary electromagnetic coil arranged to generate a time varying magnetic field; and a secondary electromagnetic coil arranged to detect the time varying magnetic field as affected, directly or indirectly, by the leadscrew moving relative to the probe tube and to output, on the basis of the detected time varying magnetic field, a signal indicative of the location of the leadscrew relative to the probe tube. The primary electromagnetic coil and the secondary electromagnetic coil comprising copper and nickel.

  • Publication number: 20120324904
Abstract: A turbine power plant employs a radial staging of a liquid injection system to provide a uniform fluid distribution, for use in wet compression. The liquid injection system can be actuated to inject liquid to various radial regions of an air intake case of the turbine power plant. During a stage one actuation, liquid is directed to a first radial region of the air intake case. During a stage two actuation, liquid is directed to the first radial region and also to a second radial region of the air intake case.

  • Publication number: 20110254390
Abstract: A mounting arrangement for locating a stator (10) within a casing (16) of a rotating machine comprises at least one mounting plate (12) adapted to engage with the stator (10) and the casing (16). The mounting plate (12) has a series of discrete apertures (20) therein. The apertures (20) extend through the plate (12) and are arranged in an array to provide a convoluted path which impedes the transmission of the dynamic forces through the plate (12) and into the casing (16). The apertures (20) render the plate (12) more resilient to the dynamic forces that the stator (10) experiences in operation. Each aperture (20) divides the plate (12) into portions which provide anisotropic stiffness in the radial and tangential directions.

  • Publication number: 20110194906
Abstract: A machine tool has a tool holder mounted to a platform, and a plurality of legs for connecting the platform to a workpiece. Each leg has joint systems which allow each leg to rotate relative to the platform and the workpiece and are also actuatable to alter the inter-joint distance. By alterations in the inter-joint distances of the legs the position and orientation of the tool holder relative to the workpiece is controllable. Each leg also has an attachment foot for removably attaching the leg to the workpiece. The provision of separate attachment feet avoids the need for a dedicated base for the machine tool so that it can be used in-situ and in confined and obstructed working environments.
