Patent number: 5553792Abstract: A sampling mill for grinding discrete materials to obtain a representative sample is provided by this invention. The mill is particularly useful for grinding various foodstuffs such as corn, peanuts, animal foods and the like. The material to be sampled is fed to a rotary worm gear of substantial length connected to a burr plate to feed the material between a second plate. By varying the worm gear with comminuting means, the placement of burrs on the burr plate and the distance between the burr plates, the size of the ground sample can be varied and different types of foodstuffs can be ground and sampled as compared to a grinder with limited adjustability. The ground sample is distributed to a main discharge chute and a sampling chute with an adjustable valve to provide a selected small percentage of the total ground foodstuff.Type: GrantFiled: June 2, 1995Date of Patent: September 10, 1996Assignee: Romer Labs, Inc.Inventors: Thomas R. Patent number: 5528505Abstract: The contact sensor of the hinged arm of a measurement machine for taking measurements in three dimensions is replaced by a light sensor secured at the same position. A first position-marking axis defined by a light beam emitted by an emitter disposed in a first position is used to determine a first vector by two measured points. The emitter is moved in a plane so as to take up a second position, and a second position-marking axis defined by the light beam of said emitter is used by measuring a point on the second axis. The projection [O.sub.1 ] of the second axis point onto the first position-marking axis is then used to enable a frame of reference [O.sub.1 X, O.sub.1 Y, O.sub.1 Z] to be established.Type: GrantFiled: September 19, 1994Date of Patent: June 18, 1996Assignee: RomerInventors: Romain Granger, Homer Eaton

Patent number: 5110558Abstract: A method and apparatus for adsorption and detection of adsorbents or analytes. The method and apparatus can be employed in the field for rapid adsorption of analytes and is particularly useful for detection of mycotoxins. A sample to be analyzed is prepared in solution and placed in a test tube. A tube-like adsorption column having a seal and a valve member is forcefully fed into the test tube to force solutions through the valve member into the columun and through a filter and adsorbent to trap interferences. The semi-purified solution may then be analyzed for the presence of analytes. The column with the purified solution may be further employed with a second smaller adsorption column similarly equipped with a seal and valve member fitting within the first column. In similar fashion the second column may be forced into the first column to expel the solution therein into the second column and through one or more selective adsorbents for different analytes such as one or more mycotoxins.Type: GrantFiled: December 13, 1989Date of Patent: May 5, 1992Assignee: Romer Labs, Inc.Inventor: Thomas R. Patent number: 4159127Abstract: Safety apparatus for restraining a seated occupant in a vehicle may comprise a tunnel-shaped body to restrain the lower torso of a large child or an adult, the body providing a base on which a movable chest-restraining panel is pivotally mounted. In the case of a small child, the lower torso restraining means includes an additional seat providing a base, for example, with a separate fixed panel and/or side portions, on which the chest restraining panel is pivotally mounted. The straps at each side of the occupant's body anchor the lower torso restraining means to the vehicle while enabling limited inertial movement relative to the vehicle seat. If the vehicle decelerates suddenly, the occupant's inertia moves the lower torso restraining means away from the seat until the straps are tensioned and act on lever means to pivot the chest restraining panel into its operative position. Either the lever means, or other locking means, may act as a stop to prevent return movement of the chest restraining panel.Type: GrantFiled: March 27, 1978Date of Patent: June 26, 1979Assignee: Romer-Wingard Autogurte GmbHInventors: Waldemar Czernakowski, Hermann Wetter, Ludwig Berger
