  • Patent number: 6233990
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for manufacturing a formed piece of aluminum or some other relatively soft metal. In accordance with the invention, a slice is cut form a rod of aluminum or some other raw-cast metal; the slice forms a blank (3), which is placed on the mould surface (10) of a mould tool (5) rotating about its axis (4), and which is formed using a roll forming tool rotating about its axis (6) inclined to the axis of the mould tool and being in linear rolling contact with the blank surface. The blank is then formed to a substantially disc-shaped piece of plate between the opposite rotating tools (5, 7). The method may be part of the manufacturing process of a frying pan or kettle so that the roll formed piece may comprise the bottom and collar of the utensil, which is bent to form the sides of the cooking utensil at the next pressure turning stage; or, alternatively, the roll formed piece may be fastened as the bottom to a separately manufactured utensil by linear pressing.

  • Patent number: 6145362
Abstract: A process and apparatus for the manufacture of a cooking vessel, such as a frying pan (12) or a kettle from a metal blank. The vessel is manufactured by roll forming techniques by using a lower tool (3) that rotates around its axis (2), the form face (6, 7) of the lower tool being designed so that it corresponds to the outer surface of the thus created vessel, and an upper tool (5) that rotates around its axis (4), the surface (9, 10) of the upper tool having a profile that corresponds to the inner surface formed to the vessel. The blank is placed on the form face of the lower tool and the tools (3, 5) are then made to rotate so that the blank rotates along with the lower tool (3), and the surface of the upper tool (5) is in linear roll contact with the blank, whereby the metal is formed in the slot between the tools, spreading out into the desired form of the vessel. A vertical wall on the lower tool adjacent the blank may prevent the blank from becoming dislocated on the lower tool.

  • Patent number: 6061892
Abstract: A method for joining two or more metal parts (1, 2) together. According to the invention, the joining is carried out by using roll forming techniques by placing the metal parts (1, 2) on top of each other on the form face (7) of a tool (4) which is made to rotate, and by arranging the topmost part (1) in linear roll contact with a forming tool (6) which is also in rotational movement, whereby the malleable deformation of the metal in the slot between the tools integrates the parts together. A mesh or perforated plate (2) of harder metal in particular can be joined to the sheet-like part (1) of a softer metal by using roll forming, by making the metal ingredient of the latter to penetrate the apertures (12) in the former.
