Patent number: 7230697Abstract: A method and apparatus is disclosed for multi-mode spectral imaging. In one embodiment, the present invention comprises the steps of illuminating an object with a modified illumination profile, producing a reflected, transmitted or fluorescence image of the illuminated object, scanning the object, and re-imaging the reflected, transmitted or fluorescence light after modifying the light's optical state. The present invention preferably works in conjunction with other imaging systems to provide both high-spectral resolution images with lower temporal resolution and multiple image acquisition with high temporal resolution.Type: GrantFiled: January 20, 2005Date of Patent: June 12, 2007Assignee: Roper Industries, Inc.Inventors: Mark F. Patent number: 5489187Abstract: A centrifugal pump including a pump casing with internal walls defining a pump chamber and a seal cavity or chamber to the rear of the pump chamber. A rotatable impeller within the pump chamber is rotated by an impeller shaft extending through the seal cavity. Seal structure exposed to the seal cavity seals the impeller shaft to the casing. Vane structures joined to the wall defining the seal cavity produce a movement in the pumpage circulated in the seal cavity effective to remove debris and air bubbles that otherwise collect in the seal cavity.Type: GrantFiled: September 6, 1994Date of Patent: February 6, 1996Assignee: Roper Industries, Inc.Inventor: Robert B. Patent number: 4669346Abstract: A machine for operating on sheet stock workpieces having stock grippers mounted on a work positioning carriage for moving the sheet stock workpiece along first and second relatively transverse paths in the plane of the stock to position the workpiece at predetermined positions relative to the machine tools. Work grippers are mounted on the work positioning carriage for adjustment relative to the carriage when the work grippers are released and the work grippers are automatically clamped against movement relative to the carriage when the work grippers are actuated to grip the stock.Type: GrantFiled: March 5, 1986Date of Patent: June 2, 1987Assignee: Roper Whitney Co., division of Roper Industries, Inc.Inventor: Roger J. Patent number: 4523900Abstract: The combination of a motor-driven impeller pump assembly and a self-priming column attachment. The column attachment is detachably secured to the pump assembly and includes an elongate shaft exterior which is attached to an impeller in the pump assembly with a detachable connection. An axial flow inducer is located at the bottom end of the column attachment and serves to lift a fluid in the column towards the impeller. A balance line conduit extends from a balance chamber located behind the impeller downwards on the extension of the column to the level of the axial flow inducer, thereby serving to lessen axially imbalanced forces acting on the impeller pump assembly. The column also includes a set of straightener vanes to reduce rotational flow through the length of the column. A double-volute chamber surrounding the impeller serves to radially balance forces acting on the impeller, the motor and their associated bearings.Type: GrantFiled: March 22, 1984Date of Patent: June 18, 1985Assignee: Roper Industries, Inc.Inventor: Max Frey

Patent number: 4272224Abstract: A drive coupling, as between an engine and a pump, facilitating assembly of the pump to the engine and preparation of the engine-pump combination for operation. Elements of the coupling include a relatively projecting externally splined shaft associated with the pump and an internally splined hub associated with the engine, the two being brought to a telescoping, interfitting relation as an inherent part of an action properly relating the pump to the engine. A shaft support assembly provides for a temporary fixing of the shaft against off center movements while it is being introduced into the hub. The hub is made a part of a separable coupling plate assembly fastened directly to the engine flywheel preparatory to a coupling of the pump to the engine. The splined connection within the hub is lubricated according to a concept substantially precluding loss of lubricant during operation of the drive coupling but providing for escape of lubricant supplied in excess of that required.Type: GrantFiled: August 25, 1978Date of Patent: June 9, 1981Assignee: Roper Industries, Inc. Patent number: 4237704Abstract: An Oldham type coupling including first and second end coupling members rotatable about relative parallel axes and an intermediate coupling member. The intermediate coupling member is connected to the first end coupling member for relative translatory movement along a first path radially of the first end coupling member by a first set of rollers that transmit torque and by a second set of rollers that transmit end thrust between the intermediate and first end coupling member. The intermediate coupling member is connected to the second end coupling member for relative translatory movement along a second path radially of the second end coupling member and crosswise of the first path by a third set of rollers that transmit torque and by a fourth set of rollers arranged to transmit end thrust between the intermediate and second end coupling members.Type: GrantFiled: March 8, 1979Date of Patent: December 9, 1980Assignee: Roper Industries, Inc.Inventor: Rajan Varadan
