Abstract: A display unit is provided, the display unit including a housing configured for mounting in an interior region of a vehicle, and a screen mounted on the housing for movement between a stowed position wherein the screen is at least partially contained within the housing and a deployed position wherein the screen projects from the housing to reveal a viewing surface of the screen. When the screen is deployed, the viewing surface typically is at an angle of between approximately 45-degrees and 90-degrees from horizontal, promoting viewability of the screen.
Abstract: A monitor support system with self-positioning guide track that includes a base configured for mounting in the interior of a land vehicle, and a monitor support member positioned for sliding motion through a bore in the base. The monitor support member supports a monitor, and may be moved between a stowed position wherein a supported monitor is positioned adjacent the base for storage and a deployed position wherein a supported monitor is positioned away from the base for use by a vehicle occupant. The monitor support member may include a longitudinal guideway and the base may include a guideway positioning element that engages the guideway to guide sliding longitudinal movement of the monitor support member along a desired trajectory between the stowed and deployed positions.
Abstract: A capacitive sensor system for an active magnetic bearing supporting a rotating shaft and flywheel in a flywheel energy storage system integrates sensor elements into the bearing stators, thereby conserving valuable space within a vacuum housing enclosing the flywheel energy storage system. High frequency resonant processing provides intrinsic linearity and noise immunity while permitting fast response times. Simple design of the sensor system permits all sensor electronics to be readily packaged within the vacuum housing.
Abstract: An articulable projecting plug is disclosed that provides for interchangeable mechanical connection between one of several electronic-signal ports such as video-signal ports, and housing/support structure associated with an electronic device such as a flat-screen television. The plug also accommodates video communication between a video-signal source and such television. The plug includes joining structure constructed to bring the plug into contact with the port and hold them both in such joined relationship. The joining structure includes an outer surface and holder structure for holding the first end of an elongate conductor so that joinder of the plug with the port will also result in contact between such first end and the port. The plug also includes an elongate projecting member terminating with first and second ends, with the first end being operatively connected to the joining structure so that the projecting elongate member extends from it and away from the port.
Abstract: A field control system for a wound rotor synchronous motor-generator used in electrically powered automobiles is capable of optimizing the performance of the motor-generator for all driving conditions. Using a rotary transformer to transmit power across the rotational boundary, it has no wearing parts and is silent. Preferably, the field control system has common elements with the controller which generates the stator currents of the synchronous motor-generator.

Abstract: A flywheel support system isolates the flywheel (11) and its motor-generator (21) from the driving environment of an electrically powered motor vehicle. A suitable liquid (9), placed between the outer (8) and vacuum (10) housings of the flywheel assembly, provides buoyancy and damping to the vacuum housing, cooling the motor-generator, and serves as one of the barriers to rotor energy and angular momentum transfer in the event of and accident or failure. During normal operation, a shearable mechanical gimbal system (80) keeps the vacuum housing centered in the outer housing, reacts the spin moments generated by the motor-generator, and provides a path for the electrical leads into the vacuum housing. In the event of bearing seizure or rotor failure, the mechanical gimbal will shear and allow the vacuum housing to gradually spin down against the fluid. A system of angular-contact oil-lubricated ball bearings (12, 13) supports the rotating assembly including the rotor (21b) of the motor-generator.
Abstract: A new and distinct variety of Hybrid Tea rose plant is provided which abundantly forms attractive double Currant Red blossoms having very strong petals. Such blossoms are long-lasting on the plant or when cut and placed in a vase and exhibit good petal-drop characeristics. The plant exhibits long very erect stems and forms attractive deep green foliage. The new variety is particularly well suited for cut flower production under greenhouse growing conditions.
