  • Patent number: 5843858
Abstract: An oxygen sensor made of alkaline-earth-doped perovskitic lanthanum ferrites with the general formula:La.sub.1-x Me.sub.x FeO.sub.3-.delta.where Me is one of the alkaline earth metals, Mg, Ca, Sr, and Ba and x is the degree of doping, and the oxygen deficit of anion .delta.=0 to 0.25. The degree of doping of the lanthanum ferrites is x=0.1 to 0.3 and resistance is measured in the lanthanum ferrites as a function of oxygen partial pressure.

  • Patent number: 5730543
Abstract: An electrically conductive connection is made between a metal connector and a metal layer applied and bonded by sintering to a ceramic substrate comprising glass and/or vitreous ceramic in small quantities. An adhesion-promoting layer having a glass and/or vitreous ceramic and metal particles is applied and bonded by fusion to the ceramic substrate. The metal layer with the sintered bond is then applied to the ceramic substrate and the connector is welded to the metal layer by laser welding.

  • Patent number: 5546787
Abstract: A housing (5) gas sensors, preferably lambda probes for detecting the content of pollution or oxygen or both in exhaust from, preferably, internal-combustion engines. A protective outer housing has electric connections at one end for a sensor mounted on a metal. A perforated protective cap accommodates the sensor and is intended for exposure to the gas being analyzed at the other end. A ceramic shape accommodates the connections and/or the metal and is accommodated in turn in the outer housing. The ceramic shape consists of at least two halves with a slot that is open along one side at the first end and with contacts resting flat against the base and walls of the slot with one side elevated above the open side. Each half also accommodates a depression extending all the way to the other end with the metal fitting into the depressions. At least the projecting areas of the contacts are in the vicinity of the depression. The connections are on the back of the contacts.

  • Patent number: 5505911
Abstract: There is provided a start-up catalyzer for catalyzing exhaust gas from an internal combustion engine in which flat and corrugated sheets are disposed in alternating relation. Some of the flat sheets have an electrically conductive resistance-heating layer which may be catalytically active and in form of a plurality of rosette-shaped conductive loops connected in series.

  • Patent number: 5352353
Abstract: The invention concerns a device for continuously monitoring the level of at least one gaseous constituent in a mixture of gases. The drawbacks of the known devices are complexity, high power consumption, large size, and, due to their high mass, non-uniform distribution of temperature, entailing imprecise measurement, and inertia, especially at the commencement of operation. These drawbacks are eliminated with a base in the form of a water with at least two electrodes in the form of separated thin coatings and with a temperature sensor separated from the electrodes on one side and with a heater in the form of an electric-resistance heating coating on the other side.

  • Patent number: 5202665
Abstract: The invention relates to a temperature sensor with platinum of temperature-sensitive material, and a process for the production of such a temperature sensor. The problem of the invention is to provide a miniaturized temperature sensor as small as possible which can be used at temperatures of 600.degree. C. to over 1,000.degree. C. For solution, the invention proposes a temperature sensor in which the layer contains finely divided metal platinum in oxide ceramic. Production takes place by mixing together platinum powder, oxide and binder, and after supplying the layer on the support substratum, tempering with this latter.

  • Patent number: 5018272
Abstract: A method for producing a tubular-shaped wire mesh which serves as cladding for catalytically coated cylindrical one-piece ceramics units used to decontaminate exhausts of internal combustion engines. These units function as catalysts and have a wire mesh wrapped along a circumference and around the surface of an arbor of the unit. The wrapping is such that the mesh is axially longer than the distance between two end faces of the units. The mesh has a section projecting axially beyond each end face of the unit. The wire mesh is secured to the surface of the arbor in an area which is directly adjacent to the projecting section. The projecting section is compressed into a bead to a predetermined axial extent.

  • Patent number: 4422525
Abstract: A muffler for combustion engine in which a housing is subdivided into at least two successive reflection chambers. An exhaust gas inlet pipe enters the first input reflection chamber, and intermediate channels are provided for communicating between the reflection chambers. An exhaust gas outlet pipe terminates in the last reflection chamber. A corrugated metal sheet is provided on the inner side of the housing, and cooperates with that inner side so that each corrugation of the metal sheet forms an intermediate channel with the inner side of the housing. The region of the opening of the exhaust gas inlet and outlet pipes is surrounded by a respective chamber housing. Each chamber housing forms a closed reflection chamber and abuts the inner side of the corrugated metal sheet to form a plurality of mutually separated guide channels.
