Abstract: Systems and associated methods are described for providing media content. The system retrieves from memory a media consumption pattern profile, which includes first and second media characteristics associated as a pattern of media consumption and a time duration indicating how long a first media content item having the first media characteristic was output by a user device before the user device changed to outputting a second media content item having the second media characteristic. The system outputs a media content item onto the user device. In response to detecting the media content item has the first media characteristic and has been output for the time duration, the system outputs a third media content item having the first and second media characteristics onto the user device and after outputting the third media content item, outputs a fourth media content item having the second media characteristic onto the user device.

Abstract: Systems and methods for dynamically routing notifications based on device statuses are disclosed herein. For instance, a notification may be generated for a user account corresponding to an application that is installed on a plurality of devices. A system identifies a status of each of the plurality of devices and uses the status of each of the plurality of devices to select a particular device to receive the notification. The system then transmits the notification to the selected particular device.

Abstract: Systems and methods for rendering a 3D image are provided. The system receives texture and depth data (depth map) for an image. The system generates, based on the image data, a plurality of folded focal planes matrices. For each respective pixel matrix, the system preprocesses pixel values in the respective focal pixel plane matrix to generate a respective preprocessed matrix, wherein the respective preprocessed matrix clusters together pixel values of the respective folded focal plane matrix based on the depth data for the image. The system generates phase functions based on a plurality of the preprocessed matrices. The system configures a spatial light modulator of the SLM device in accordance with the generated phase functions. The system then provides the plurality of the preprocessed matrices as input to the SLM device to generate for display a 3D representation of the received image data.

Abstract: Systems and methods are described for generating a media asset for presentation during a consumption session associated with a user profile, and while generating for presentation the media asset, generating for presentation an option to enable a social network profile, associated with a social network and associated with the user profile, to interact with a social network profile of a performer included in a cast of the media asset. In response to receiving selection of the option, an image of a frame of a current scene of the media asset may be extracted, and input associated with the image of the frame may be received. A request to post a message on the social network may be transmitted, toe enable a plurality of devices to access the message via the social network, and the message may comprise the extracted image of the frame and the received input.

Abstract: The system determines whether content such as an image is suitable for content modification based on one or more criteria. The system includes decision engines or modules configured to evaluate one or more suitability metrics based on corresponding criteria such as publication status, restriction status, context, compatibility, and classification. If content is unsuitable for content modification because of entities or context depicted therein, privacy status, incompatibility with content modification, properties of the content file itself, or other aspects, the system generates a tag indicating the content is unsuitable for content modification. If content is suitable for content modification because of entities or context depicted therein, publication status, compatibility with content modification, properties of the content file itself, or other aspects, the system generates a content modification tag indicating the content is suitable for content modification.

Abstract: Systems and methods are described herein for recommending content based on a mood score associated with a user profile. The system accesses the viewing history of the user profile to determine media assets consumed and the mood score associated with each of the consumed media assets of the plurality of media assets. A cumulative mood score is calculated based at least in part to determine if the total score is below a mood threshold. Based on the cumulative mood score being lower than the mood threshold, the system generates for presentation, on the consumer device, one or more media assets with a positive mood score.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided reducing storage space occupied by a media asset by adjusting quality levels of the media asset downward over time. This may be accomplished by a media guidance application that store, at a given time, the media asset in a first format having a first quality level. The media guidance application retrieves, from a database, a data entry corresponding to the media asset and determines, based on the data entry, a threshold period of time for storing the media asset in the first format. The media guidance application detects whether the threshold period of time since the given time has passed and responds by altering a first portion of the media asset from the first format having the first quality level to a second format having a second quality level that is inferior to the first quality level.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided herein for presenting a focused display of content. A content item is generated for display and an index map is received for the content item. The index map correlates the content item, for example, a region of the content item, to the focused content. A focus indicator can be simultaneously displayed with the content item to inform a viewer of the availability of the focused content. A selection to present the focused content is received and in response, and based on the index map, the focused content is generated for display, thereby enabling a viewer to have a personalized viewing experience.

Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed herein for determining whether a media asset intended to be recorded is actually transmitted at the time and on the source of a scheduled higher-priority recording. Should the intended media asset not be transmitted in a desirable way, or not transmitted at all, the system will instead make a recording of a lower-priority recording that would not have been made because of a conflict. The systems and methods described herein, before making a higher-priority recording, obtain a sample of the media asset included in a received transmission at a scheduled time and compare it to content associated with the media asset scheduled for recording to determine whether to record the received transmission.

Searches are conducted to determine the answer to a query and, once the answer is found, various options are presented to the user, allowing the user the choice to view the answer in multiple different ways.

Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for generating a content structure that can then be used as a content design building block. Specifically, new content can be automatically generated by combining, replacing or mixing and matching objects, actions, settings, effects, audio, etc., from any number of previously stored content structures to create a new content structure, which is then rendered as a new content segment. Content segments are then stitched together to generate a finished content stream. In this way, new and original content can be created without the traditionally expensive and labor-intensive filming or computer animation processes.

Abstract: Systems and methods are described herein such that, a media guidance application presents, in an interactive program guide, a virtual content source for binge watching a program series. The media guidance application may determine a program series a user is currently watching. The media guidance application may receive a user selection of a media asset. The media guidance application may determine a length of time between a current time and a start time of the media asset. The media guidance application may determine the next episodes of the program series the user can watch before the start time of the media asset and present them using a virtual content source.

Abstract: The system generates a validation tool in response to receiving an indication to initiate validation. The system identifies at least one media content item based on a user profile, and generates at least one question based on the at least one media content item. The at least one media content item may include an image, a video, text, or a combination thereof. The system determines at least one answer corresponding to the at least one question. The question and answer may be determined based on a question template. For example, the template may be selected based on attribute types or values of the at least one media content item. The system generates the at least one question for output on an output device. Upon receiving input indicative to an answer, the system compares the inputted answer to the determined answer to determine whether to validate the user.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for dynamically adjusting notification frequency for a sporting event. During a sporting event, information related to the sporting event is received. A first level of interest of a user in the sporting event is determined. A performance metric of a competitor in the sporting event is determined. A second level of interest of the user in receiving notifications relating to the sporting event is generated as a function of the first level of interest and the performance metric. In response to determining that the second level of interest exceeds a notification frequency threshold, a notification is presented for the user that includes the information related to the sporting event when the information is received during the sporting event.

Abstract: Systems and methods are described herein for retrieving an information file from a user profile about a scheduled trip, where access to content may be restricted and identifying, based on the consumption pattern, a first progression point before the scheduled start time and a second progression point after the scheduled end time of the scheduled trip. Based on the difference between the first and second progression points, the media guidance application causes to be stored the respective media assets on a consumption device. Then before departing for the scheduled trip, the media guidance application confirms the first progression points against the current progression point and causes to adjust the stored media assets based on a difference between the current progression point and the first progression point.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for presenting an interactive content item matching a user-selected category to a user for a desired duration. A user selects a category and selects a first interactive content item on a media system. The system calculates a total duration of a storyline from the selected interactive content item that matches the selected category (e.g., a genre “comedy”) and compares the calculated duration to a desired predetermined duration for which the user wishes to watch the selected show. If the system determines, for instance, that the total duration of the selected storyline is less than the predetermined duration, the system identifies scenes from another show and interleaves them with scenes from the first interactive content item to generate a combined interactive content item that satisfies the user viewing preferences.

Abstract: Systems and methods are described for seamlessly connecting devices based on relationships between the users of the respective devices. A media guidance application may determine that a first user has entered an environment (e.g., his/her mother's home) and may determine a frequency with which the first user enters the environment (e.g., daily). In response to determining that the first user visits frequently, the media guidance application may identify a second device in the environment (e.g., a smart TV) that a second user (e.g., the first user's mother) is authorized to grant access rights for. The media guidance application may determine a likelihood that the second user will grant the access rights for the second device to the first user, based on interaction data between the first user and the second user. In response to determining a high likelihood, the media guidance application may transmit the access rights.

Abstract: Systems and methods for generating a content item based on a difference between a user confidence score and a confidence score are disclosed. For example, a system generates for output a first content item. While the first content item is being outputted, the system receives user data via sensors of a device. The system determines a user confidence score based on the user data and metadata of the first content item. The user confidence score indicates a user's perceived probability of an event occurring in the future. The system calculates a prediction score which estimates the likelihood of the event occurring in the future. In response to determining that the difference between the user confidence score and the prediction score exceeds a threshold, the system selects a second content item related to the event and generates for output a recommendation comprising an identifier of the second content item.

Abstract: Systems and associated methods are described for determining popularity of new content. The system analyzes a content item to identify at least a first and a second attribute associated with the content item. The system also identifies previously posted content items associated with the first and the second attributes. The system then determines levels of user activity associated with the previously posted content item corresponding to the first attribute over a first past time period and associated with the previously posted content item corresponding to the second attribute over a second past time period. The system then extrapolates a levels of user activity for a future time period based on the first past time period and on the second past time period. The system further determines an anticipated level of user activity associated with the content item for the future time period based on the extrapolated levels of user activity.

Abstract: Systems and methods are described for generating meme content. A content item is tagged with one or more first tags based on metadata for the content item. The content item having the one or more first tags is received at user equipment. The content item is tagged with one or more second tags based on a user profile. A segment of the content item is identified based on the first and second tags. The identified segment is stored for use in generating meme content.
