Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed herein for modifying the spelling of a list of names based on a score associated with a first name. The systems and methods may receive a media asset, determine a first source of data corresponding to the media asset, and receive, from the first source of data, a list of names, each name in the list of names being associated with a respective copy of the media asset. The systems and methods may generate a reduced list of names, retrieve a criterion from storage, determine a set of scores corresponding to each name from the reduced list of names based on the criterion, select a first name from the reduced list of names based on the set of scores, and modify the spelling of a second name in the list of names based on the first name.

Abstract: Systems and methods for training network-connected objects to provide configurations in association with events within media assets. A respective configuration setting of a network-connected object and a baseline biometric state of a user may be stored in a database for each event within a media asset. An event within a media asset (for display) may be detected. In response, a command may be sent to the network-connected object to implement the respective configuration setting. A determination may be made whether the user adjusts the respective configuration setting to a new configuration setting within a predefined time of the event. A biometric state of the user may be retrieved from a biometric device in response to the adjustment to a new configuration setting. If the biometric state does not correspond to the baseline biometric state, the respective configuration setting may be replaced with the new configuration setting.

Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed herein for identifying a category of a search term and providing search results subject to the identified category. These systems and methods may be performed by a media guidance application. The media guidance application may receive a search term that may correspond to different categories of items, and the media guidance application may identify a category that the search term is most likely related to using a hierarchical structure. The media guidance application may limit the search to the identified category of items.

Abstract: Systems and methods are described herein for allowing a user to grant or deny a third party access to different portions of the user's profile characteristics. Control circuitry may calculate an optimal promotion offer from a third party to a user based on a first layer of the user's profile characteristics matching a target-audience profile of the third party. Control circuitry may then generate for display the optimal promotion offer to the user. In response to receiving a selection of the optimal promotion offer from the user, control circuitry may receive further selections, from the user, of a subset of the user's profile characteristics to share with the third party, and then generate for display, to the user, an actual promotion offer based on the selected subset of profile characteristics.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided herein for performing an action based on a feature in a media asset. In many media assets, specific features appear at portions of a program that users find interesting. These features can be compared with a database of stored objects that commonly appear in media assets to determine the object corresponding to the feature. The context of the object in the media asset then may be determined so that an appropriate action is selected for the system to take.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided herein for indicating an amount of available storage space. To this end, the systems and methods monitor storage space associated with a media storage device to determine whether an amount of storage space available is less than a threshold. In response to determining the amount of storage space available is less than the threshold, the systems and methods enter a deletion mode. Systems and methods monitor user interactions between a user and a user device after entering the deletion mode. Systems and methods further generate for display a notification at an appropriate time, based on the monitored user interactions, to indicate the amount of storage space available to the user.

Abstract: Methods and systems are described herein for generating an audible presentation of a communication received from a remote server. A presentation of a media asset on a user equipment device is generated for a first user. A textual-based communication is received, at the user equipment device from the remote server. The textual-based communication is transmitted to the remote server by a second user and the remote server transmits the textual-based communication to the user equipment device responsive to determining that the second user is on a list of users associated with the first user. An engagement level of the first user with the user equipment device is determined. Responsive to determining that the engagement level does not exceed a threshold value, a presentation of the textual-based communication is generated in audible form.

Abstract: Systems and methods for disambiguation of an ambiguous entity in a search query based on the gaze of a user. These systems and methods may be implemented by a media guidance application (e.g., executed by user equipment associated with the user). In some aspects, the media guidance application may monitor the gaze of the user and attempt to disambiguate the ambiguous entity based on an area of the screen the user viewed while issuing the search query. If the media guidance application receives an indication that it did not disambiguate the ambiguous entity in the search query correctly, the media guidance application may increase the area of the screen that the user viewed in order to find an additional entity. This may allow the media guidance application to quickly and accurately find the correct answer to the user's search query.

A media application receives input indicating the recording criteria and identifying a first keyword. The media application accesses a data structure to identify a first node associated with the first keyword. The data structure includes the first node and a plurality of nodes connected to the first node via a plurality of paths. The media application receiving audio component data for a portion of the media asset extracts a term from the audio component data, and identifies a second node in the data structure that is associated with the extracted term. The media application calculates a path score for the portion of the media asset based on a path size in the data structure between the first node and the second node. When the score is high enough, the portion of the media asset is recorded.

Abstract: A consumption probability metric may be generated for a media asset. An aggregated forecast predicting user consumption of a media asset is received. A plurality of probabilities, each corresponding to a user of a plurality of users, is received, each indicating how likely a respective user is to consume the media asset. A weight for the plurality of users is calculated representing a ratio of the total number of users to a number of users in the plurality of users. A disaggregated forecast predicting user consumption of a media asset is determined based on the weight for the plurality of users and the plurality of probabilities. A modification factor is computed based on the aggregated forecast and the disaggregated forecast. A metric is generated that includes a plurality of user identifiers associated with the plurality of users and a plurality of modified probabilities each modified by the modification factor.

Each record may be reduced to a set of symbols representing the composition of each record. A user may assign a classification to each symbol within each record. Records with identical arrangements and classifications of symbols may be grouped together, and a representative sample of data records from each group may be fed into the model as the reduced training data set.

Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed herein for creating a co-watching experience among audience members who are physically apart when watching the media asset. A media guidance application may monitor a sound of the first user. In response to the sound being detected during the monitoring, the media guidance application may determine whether the first user emitted the sound based on an occurrence in the video. In response to determining that the first user emitted the sound based on an occurrence in the video, the media guidance application may store the sound in connection with a timecode of the video corresponding to a time when the sound is detected. When the video is displayed to a second user, the sound of the first user may be played back based on the timecode of the video stored in connection with the sound.

Images related to that subject matter are then retrieved and displayed during calls between those users. Users are thus presented with customized and personalized content specific to the subject matter of each call, thus helping them better recognize callers and more readily engage with the call.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided to record portions of media assets. User request is received to record a media asset together with a criterion for recording portions of that media asset. A content recognition algorithm is executed against segments of the media asset to determine a set of keywords associated with those segments. Separately a set of keywords associated with the criterion is generated. Sets of keywords are compared and segments that match the criterion are discovered. If it is determined that a first segment and third segment each match the criterion and a second segment does not, a delete indicator is added to the second segment and the third and first segments are compared. If those segments match the delete indicator is removed from the second segment.
