Abstract: An oil field tubular has a composite material housing within which is located one or more wireless communication devices with a charge storage device for powering the communication device(s). In a disclosed method of installing a wireless communication device upon an oilfield tubular, a prefabricated composite shell formed with an inner skin and outer skin forming an inner space for containing the wireless communication device is applied to a surface of the tubular so as to form a cavity between the surface of the tubular and the prefabricated composite shell, a bonding material is introduced to the cavity and bonding material is cured.
