Patent number: 11753929Abstract: A system to retrieve a buoyant leak detector (76) traveling with the fluid flowing in a pipeline (24), includes a catchment device (38) located above the bottom interior of the pipeline. Flexible, elongate manifold structures (30) are constructed with fluid outlet openings (54) extending along the manifold structures. The manifold structures are deployable to lie across the lower inside perimeter of the pipeline, upstream from the catchment device. A source of pressurized air is routed to the manifold structure, whereby air bubbles are emitted from the nozzles of the manifold structure to form a sheet or curtain of air bubbles that flow in the direction downstream of the fluid flow in the pipeline and at an angle upwardly from the location of the manifold structures to cause the leak detector to be deflected by the bubble curtain toward the catchment device.Type: GrantFiled: December 16, 2021Date of Patent: September 12, 2023Assignee: Russell NDE Systems Inc.Inventor: David E. Patent number: 11733207Abstract: A probe 100 includes exciter units 102 arranged in an array and detector units 104 and 106, also arranged in arrays, with the arrays positioned proximal to and in the shape of the exterior circumference of an individual boiler tube 108. The detector units 104 are “absolute” coil detectors which are used to detect and quantify general wall loss, for example, resulting from steam impingement erosion. The detectors 106 are differential, axial pairs which are used for detecting pits in the boiler tubers. The exciter units and detector units are mounted in a stainless steel housing 110 of the probe. The housing 110 is shaped to closely match the contour of the boiler tube 108. The probe can be moved along the boiler tubes by hand to inspect the flame side of boiler tubes, one at a time. Wheels 112 are provided to roll the probe along the boiler tubes.Type: GrantFiled: December 1, 2021Date of Patent: August 22, 2023Assignee: Russell NDE Systems Inc.Inventors: David E. Russell, Ankit Vajpayee, Hoan Nguyen, Yuwu Yu

Patent number: 11493480Abstract: A probe including a plurality of links connected together in series, wherein the plurality of links create a flexible compartment containing at least a first and second exciter means and at least one pair of detector means, wherein the exciter means are driven by an alternating current to produce an alternating magnetic field, and the detector means are configured to detect the magnetic field of an induced eddy current caused by the exciter means magnetic field.Type: GrantFiled: October 12, 2020Date of Patent: November 8, 2022Assignee: Russell NDE Systems Inc.Inventors: David E. Russell, Yuwu Yu, Hoan Nguyen, Brian Thai, Daniel Lingnau, Ellen Jin

Publication number: 20220090725Abstract: A centralizer for centrally locating measuring/testing equipment within the interior of a pipeline while traveling through the pipeline includes a first flange structure and a second flange structure nominally spaced from the first flange structure along the direction of travel of the centralizer. A plurality of radially outwardly curved loops extending between the first and second flange structures to form curved arches that define an outwardly convex outer surface. One or more ridges, or a single or a plurality of wheels, extending along the loops to project outwardly of the outer surfaces of the arches to extend above the remainder of the outer surface of the arches to bear against the interior of the pipeline.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 24, 2020Publication date: March 24, 2022Applicant: Russell NDE Systems Inc.Inventors: David Russell, Daniel Lingnau, Ellen Jin, Ad Shatat
