Publication number: 20140260836Abstract: A new ratchet wrench has a slide gear that is laterally enclosed within the head. Shoulders on the slide gear are curved and outwardly flanked by a single recess. The distance from the top of the shoulder to the base of the recess is no more than half the difference between the outside diameter and the root diameter of the teeth on the ratchet. Those teeth have essentially planar faces, top lands that traverse at least one quarter of the pitch, and bottom lands that extend continuously from the faces, have essentially constant radius, and traverse at least one quarter of the pitch. A pin projects out the back and enables a user to shift the wrench between clockwise and counterclockwise ratcheting. All cavities for the ratcheting assembly are recessed from the face in an arrangement that can be machined in a single set-up on a computer-controlled vertical mill.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 13, 2013Publication date: September 18, 2014Applicant: RYESON CORPORATIONInventors: John Reynertson, JR., Vladimir Kunin

Patent number: 7234378Abstract: A digital torque wrench is disclosed having a transducer beam with a reduced thickness web therein. At least one strain gauge sensor is mounted to the internal web to measure the shearing stress within the web as the wrench is rotated. By using such a reduced thickness web, mounting the sensors in opposed orientations, mounting the transducer beam to the torque wrench handle using first and second longitudinal flanking pins, and providing the transducer beam in a tapered shape, the resulting measurement of the torque wrench is very accurate. Moreover, a rotational interface module with digital display is provided to facilitate reading of the display by the user.Type: GrantFiled: April 13, 2006Date of Patent: June 26, 2007Assignee: Ryeson CorporationInventor: John L. Reynertson, Jr.

Patent number: 7089834Abstract: A torque wrench is disclosed having torque range indicators. The torque wrench includes a handle, a torquing tool, a mounting bar and a programmable interface module. At least one torque sensor is communicatively coupled to the interface module. The interface module includes an input device able to receive at least one predetermined torque value, a torque value indicator, a torque range indicator, and a controller. The torque value indicator, the torque sensor, and the torque range indicator are communicatively coupled to the controller, and the controller is programmed to activate the torque range indicator based on a torque range calculated by comparing a torque value received from the torque sensor to the at least one predetermined torque value.Type: GrantFiled: April 7, 2004Date of Patent: August 15, 2006Assignee: Ryeson CorporationInventors: John Reynertson, Jerome M. Patent number: 6799919Abstract: A coupling for torque transmitting devices is disclosed. The coupling employs polygonally shaped first and second ends having retaining balls held within each of the corners of the polygon. Pin cones are provided in each of the first and second ends. Actuation of a set screw or the like causes each of the pin cones to push the retaining balls radially outwardly in a simultaneous fashion thereby engaging a first and second members to be coupled.Type: GrantFiled: December 4, 2002Date of Patent: October 5, 2004Assignee: Ryeson CorporationInventor: John L. Patent number: 6155147Abstract: An improved torque limiting screwdriver including a shaft extending from a first end of the screwdriver body, the shaft including a first plurality of indicia thereon, and an adjustment cap arranged to be located at a second end of the screwdriver body. The adjustment cap rotatable to selectively engage a selected detent located on the bottom of the adjustment cap. A lock pin arranged to engage one of the detents to retain the adjustment cap in its select position, maintaining an accurate specific torque value for the torque limiting screwdriver.Type: GrantFiled: September 8, 1998Date of Patent: December 5, 2000Assignee: Ryeson CorporationInventor: Stephen E. Patent number: 6076439Abstract: An improved torque limiting screwdriver including a shaft extending from a first end of the screwdriver body, the shaft including a first indicia thereon, and an adjustment cap arranged to be located at a second end of the screwdriver body. The adjustment cap rotatable to selectively engage a selected detent located on the bottom of the adjustment cap. The selective rotation of the adjustment cap is aligned with indicia on a selected detent, indexing of both the indicia on the shaft and the indicia on the adjustment cap, providing an accurate specific torque value for the torque limiting screwdriver.Type: GrantFiled: September 8, 1998Date of Patent: June 20, 2000Assignee: Ryeson CorporationInventor: Stephen E. Patent number: 5181425Abstract: Torque wrench testing apparatus and method that includes holding a torque wrench, applying a predetermined torque load to one end of the wrench while limiting movement of the other end of the wrench, and measuring the actual torque applied, for comparison with the reading on the wrench gauge. The essential feature of the invention resides in the idea of limiting the movement of the other wrench end by a pylon that is pivotally mounted so that when it engages a pivotally mounted wrench handle, the handle will stay coaxial to the one end of the wrench to avoid a handle end from contacting the wrench beam, which would cause a change in the working length of the wrench beam and result in an incorrect calculation of torque.Type: GrantFiled: May 2, 1991Date of Patent: January 26, 1993Assignee: Ryeson CorporationInventor: Troy W.
