  • Patent number: 6651516
Abstract: An apparatus for weighing the mass flow of fluent material, especially of particulate type. The apparatus includes a rectilinear and inclined measuring plate on which the material is sliding. The measuring plate is fastened at a central portion of the plate. The fastening device includes one moment measuring unit configured to measure the moment around a horizontal axis crossing the vertical axis. The moment measuring unit is attached to a force measuring unit configured to measure the force directed in or parallel to the vertical axis. The force measuring unit is coupled for support to physical ground, and the material flow is determined by a calculating unit from the output signals from the moment measuring unit and the force measuring unit by determining the forces exerted on the measuring plate and substantially in the direction of the flow.

  • Patent number: 6210115
Abstract: The invention relates to an impeller being rotated around an axis for a mass flow measuring device receiving inflow of material through an inlet tube. To improve the measurement accuracy, the fan character of the impeller is reduced. This is obtained by two design principles which can be combined. The impeller includes a number of mainly radially directed vanes. That side of each vane along which the measured material flows is formed as a duct with a cross-sectional area which decreases in the direction from the center of the impeller. The other principle is to reduce the airflow by use of an upside down bowl shaped cowling placed over the impeller.

  • Patent number: 6185983
Abstract: A method for zero setting of a measuring device in which particles to be measured are subjected to tangential acceleration in a whirling impeller and torque exerted on the vanes of the impeller in reaction to the Coriolis force of acceleration of the particles is being measured as an indication of mass flow rate. The flow of material is fed to a central part of the impeller and by centrifugal force is thrown outwardly of the impeller. The flow is measured by an electronic device including a microcomputer. When the flow is absent, such condition being continually sensed for, the mean value of the torque during a chosen time or a number of revolutions of the impeller is automatically determined and memorized. This memorized torque value is used as a tare value until a next time a new tare value can be memorized.

  • Patent number: 6122977
Abstract: The invention relates to an impeller torque measuring device for a measuring device in which the mass flow rate, in particular of a bulk material or a fluid, is measured by using the Coriolis measuring principle, comprising an impeller (1) mounted for rotation on a vertical shaft (2) driven by a motor (3), the impeller (1) mounted on one end of the shaft (2) and the motor (3) on the other end of the shaft (2), and wherein the mass flow is charged into the central area of the rotating impeller (1) on which the mass is radially directed to leave the rotating impeller (1) over its circumferential edge, and wherein the torque necessary for rotating the impeller is measured by a torque measuring device (4). The shaft (2) and the motor (3) are connected to a stand (14, 15, 16) supporting the impeller torque measuring device by means of the torque measuring device (4) measuring the torque exerted by the motor (3).

  • Patent number: 6073494
Abstract: The present invention relates to an apparatus for measuring a mass flow of a fluent material using the Coriolis measuring principle. The apparatus comprises an inlet tube positioned and configured to allow the fluent material to flow therethrough and into the apparatus. An impeller wheel rotates about a rotational axis. A motor is operatively connected to the impeller wheel and rotates the impeller about the rotational axis thereof. The impeller wheel is positioned with respect to the inlet tube such that the fluent material flowing through the inlet tube into the apparatus flows into a central area of the impeller. The impeller has vanes that redirect the fluent material flowing from the inlet tube into the central area of the impeller in a generally radial direction away from the central area as the impeller is being rotated by the motor.

  • Patent number: 6033184
Abstract: The invention relates to an impeller (1) for a mass flow measuring device receiving inflow of material through an inlet tube (6), the impeller comprising a bottom plate (4), an upper plate (5) and vanes (3) extending between the lower and upper plates. An inner edge (7) of the vanes (3) is continuously or successively rising from the center (9) of the impeller (1), or the vicinity thereof, towards the outer edge (R.sub.1m) of the inlet tube (6), and that the vanes (3) are provided with a continuously or successively rising outer edge (14) corresponding to an increase of the radius of the impeller from the radius (R.sub.2) of the bottom plate (4) to the radius (R.sub.xm) of the upper plate (5).

  • Patent number: 6012323
Abstract: A method for providing an automatic calibration check of a measuring device in which particles to be measured are subjected to tangential acceleration in a whirling impeller, and torque exerted on the vanes of the impeller in reaction to the Coriolis force of accelerated particles is measured as an indication of a mass flow rate, and wherein the flow of material is fed to the central part of the impeller and thereafter is by centrifugal force thrown towards the circumference of the impeller. Flow is measured by an electronic device which includes a microcomputer. When the flow is absent or constant the rotational speed of the impeller is varied, the moment change thereof is measured and an integrated value of the kinetic energy is used to verify the operation of the instrument.

  • Patent number: 5376950
Abstract: A metering belt feeder for gravimetrically measuring a flow of material with the aid of an endless belt which includes a loading zone (10), a weighing zone (10) and a belt drive which is located between these two zones. The belt is caused to move in a plane above both the loading zone and the weighing zone. The belt drive means is constructed so as to draw the belt from the loading zone in the absence of belt-slipping and to project the belt over the weighing zone, and also so as to guide the belt against sideways movement.
