  • Patent number: 4919492
Abstract: A multiple-circuit brake system for motor vehicles in which a multiple-circuit braking value transducer is embodied partially electrically and partially as a pneumatic control valve and is intended for triggering pressure control valves, the wheel brake cylinders being disposed following these pressure control valves. One pressure-medium reservoir is associated with each pressure control valve, and the controlling energy for each of these pressure control valves is drawn from the pressure-medium reservoir associated with that valve. In the pneumatic brake circuit (I), a further pressure-medium reservoir is provided preceding the braking value transducer, as a result of which it is possible, with the aid of two-way check valves, to actuate the wheel brake cylinders with the pneumatic brake circuit (I) whenever the electrical brake circuits (II, III) have failed.

  • Patent number: 4862093
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and an arrangement for detecting ionizing current in an ignition circuit incorporated in the ignition system of an internal combustion engine, in which a measuring voltage is applied to the ignition circuit in at least one secondary winding, and in which a measuring device is used to detect the possible presence of an ionizing current in the ignition circuit. A low measuring voltage is applied during an engine start sequence, or alternatively, no measuring voltage at all, and a high measuring voltage is applied subsequent to the engine start. The invention thereby overcomes the problem existing when measuring ionizing currents of the spark plugs becoming coated with soot deposits as a result of the electrical voltage field which always exists between the electrodes of respective plugs. Such problem is particularly troublesome during an engine start sequence, since the deposits can prevent the engine from starting.

  • Patent number: 4301373
Abstract: An array camera used to scan elongated workpieces moving through a measuring zone transversely to their lengths has its photoresponsive detector elements aligned lengthwise of the workpieces, with optical axes of the elements lying in a common plane intersecting the measuring zone. Each element "sees" only a small (e.g., 8.times.8 mm) pixel. Radiation sources are located at opposite sides of said plane and emit radiation towards the measuring zone to be reflected to the elements from workpieces. During each of a succession of short measuring cycles (e.g., 4 millisecond duration) each element is exposed successively to radiation originating from each radiation source to the exclusion of the other, to thus produce an A output and a B output during each cycle, and is also exposed to substantially low level radiation to produce an R output. For each cycle, the R output of at least certain elements is subtracted from the A and the B outputs of the same elements for the same cycle, to produce .DELTA.A and .DELTA.

  • Patent number: 4294149
Abstract: Log processing apparatus comprises a cutting machine that defines a substantially vertical cutting plane, feed mechanism that feeds a log through the cutting machine in substantially lengthwise horizontal motion parallel to the cutting plane, a measuring station spaced horizontally and vertically from the cutting machine, and transfer mechanism by which a log is carried in horizontal translatory motion from the measuring station to the feed mechanism. At the measuring station, or before the log reaches that station, it is established in an optimum rotational orientation which is thereafter maintained through transfer of support of the log to a set of jaws on the feed mechanism. At the measuring station a relationship is ascertained between a calculated plane that extends lengthwise in the log and a reference plane defined at the measuring station that has a fixed relationship to the cutting plane.

  • Patent number: 4277788
Abstract: An antenna array for directional determination comprises two pairs of elongated end-firing log-periodic antenna elements, each pair fixed symmetrically to a reference plane and preferably forwardly convergent to it. The two antenna elements of one pair converge forwardly at an angle b, those of the other pair converge at a preferred angle a=1.5 b. In one embodiment each pair is connected with a 90.degree.--hybrid, and from the detected and amplified signals across individual elements of each pair there is obtained a difference signal designated L.sub.1 for the b-angle pair, L.sub.2 for the a-angle pair. A third difference signal L.sub.3 is obtained from L.sub.2 -L.sub.1. The magnitude of each difference signal depends upon value of an angle V between a symmetry line in the plane of symmetry, symmetrical to the antenna elements, and the projection in that plane of a line through the array and a detected radiation source. An indication of V is taken on the basis of L.sub.1 if L.sub.1, L.sub.2 and L.sub.

  • Patent number: 4218834
Abstract: For scoring of simulated firing of a weapon, having flatwise-angularly sweeping beams of radiation, emitted at the weapon location during a period beginning at or about the instant of simulated firing are used for measuring the position of a target retroreflector in range and in functions of azimuth and elevation. During the same period a calculation is made of the instantaneous positions in range, and in functions of azimuth and elevation, of an imaginary projectile fired from the weapon at the firing instant under conditions then existing, and the relationship is ascertained between the imaginary projectile and each beam in its angular position at interception by the retroreflector. At a scoring instant, when weapon-to-reflector distance equals weapon-to-projectile distance, or when the projectile is at a predetermined elevation relative to the reflector, scoring is based on the relationship of projectile to angular beam position at that instant.
