    Abstract: A series of optical spectral sensors for gas and vapor measurements using a combination of solid-state light sources (LED or Broadband) and multi-element detectors, housed within an integrated package that includes the interfacing optics and acquisition and processing electronics. The sensor is designed to be produced at a low cost and capable of being fabricated for mass production. Spectral selectivity is provided by a custom detector eliminating the need for expensive spectral selection components. A multi-component gas monitor system may have no moving parts and the gas sample flows through a measurement chamber where it interacts with a light beam created from the light source, such as a MEMS broad band IR source or a matrix of LEDs. A custom detector(s) is/are configured with multi-wavelength detection to detect and measure the light beam as it passes through the sample within the measurement chamber.

    Abstract: A remote sampling sensor for determining characteristics of a sample includes measurement optics and an insertion probe. The measurement optics are configured to emit light and detect returned light. The insertion probe includes a chamber, the chamber being configured to permit the sample to enter the chamber, an insertion tip at a distal end of the insertion probe, and a retro-reflective optic adjacent the insertion tip. The retro-reflective optic is configured to return the light from the measurement optics through the chamber to the measurement optics. The insertion probe is configured to be remotely located from the measurement optics.

    Abstract: A safety system for residential and commercial use includes a plurality of sensor modules that may be distributed about the environment, and that are in communication with a remote server environment and with other devices over a wireless communication network (e.g., cellular, Wi-Fi). Each sensor module includes a plurality of sensors that are capable of measuring or detecting characteristics of the environment such as smoke, small particulate, large particulate, chemicals, gasses, temperature, humidity, pressure, geolocation, and other characteristics. Analysis of sensor data is performed locally on the sensor module, as well as remotely on a server, in order to fuse and consider multiple sensor data points to identify emergency and non-emergency scenarios. By fusing and analyzing sensor data emergencies can be detected more quickly, and false alarms can be filtered out and avoided.

    Abstract: A small scale and low cost spectral sensing system designed primarily for multi-component fluids that provides a compact, low cost platform for analyzers or chemical sensors with limited number of optical and mechanical components featuring a light source, an optical interface with the sample, and a custom detector (multi-element). A single detector element has a specific wavelength, defined by a filter that can be used to select and measure specific chemical compounds. Multiple detector elements are combined to create a multi-channel detector capable of measuring a broad range of wavelengths from ultraviolet (UV) to near and mid-infrared wavelengths. The fabricated sensor can be configured for almost any class of material including gases, vapors, and liquids, with extension to solids. This is linked to the use of the custom detectors featuring filters tailored to specific substances in a broad spectral range from the UV to infrared.
