  • Patent number: 5388674
Abstract: An electromechanical brake unit in a housing (1) is provided with a drive sleeve (8) subjected to a torque of a prestressed coil spring (6), a locking spring (16) between the drive sleeve and the housing for permitting rotation of the former in a first direction, and a control sleeve (17), which is rotatable by a control motor (20) in the first direction to open the locking spring and allow the drive sleeve to rotate the same angular distance as the control sleeve. In order to obtain rotary force transmission from the drive sleeve (8) over the locking spring (16), if the control sleeve (17) is not held against rotation, the locking spring has a slightly smaller external rest diameter than the bore in the housing (1), with which it is to cooperate, whereas the control motor (20) is provided with means to hold it against rotation in its rest position, unless the current supply is broken.

  • Patent number: 5242037
Abstract: A rail vehicle brake actuator has a brake block holder (3) suspended therefrom (so as to be laterally movable during braking) by hangers (5) in the form of leaf springs. The hangers are rotatably attached to the lower end of the brake block holder by a stiff lower shaft (8) and to an actuator bracket (2) by pivot joints on a rotatable upper shaft (7).

  • Patent number: 5231887
Abstract: A reciprocating axial movement of a drive member (18) in a force actuator is generated by a prestressed tool (17) of Terfenol material being exposed to a pulsating magnetic field. The reciprocating movement is transformed to an axial movement in an application direction of a push rod (21) coaxial therewith. The drive member and the push rod are connected by a connection member (22), which is in self-locking thread engagement with a drive member and the push road and is subjected to a torque from a spiral spring (23) for its rotation during the idle stroke of the reciprocating movement in the direction for advancing the push rod in the application direction.

  • Patent number: 5183306
Abstract: A rail vehicle wheel comprises a wheel center (1), a flanged tire (2), a rubber ring (3) between the wheel center and the tire, and a pressure ring (4). The rubber ring consists of an annular, axial body (3') and at each side thereof a flange (3"), which forms an angle of for example 60.degree. with the wheel axis.

  • Patent number: 5158511
Abstract: The present specification discloses a wheel comprising a central hub and an outer rim interconnected by a web. A pair of annular braking discs are mounted one on each side of the web, each annular braking disc being secured to the web by at least two attachment elements. Each annular braking disc comprises at least two curved segments, each curved segment having two end edge regions, each end edge region of each segment overlapping an end edge region of an adjacent segment so that a continuous annular braking disc with a smooth braking surface is provided. The overlapping end edge regions have sections which extend generally axially of the braking disc in opposite directions, the sections interengaging with each other, with a spring being located between the overlapping end regions to thus bias the overlapping end regions circumferentially with respect to the annular braking disc, to thus securely interengage the segments.

  • Patent number: 5150774
Abstract: A wheel has a central hub and an outer rim interconnected by a web, with a pair of annular braking discs being mounted one on each side of the web and each composed of at least two curved segments, each secured to the web by a number of wide clearance bolts, at least two close clearance bolts and at least two further bolts. The wide clearance bolts are each a clearance fit both in an aperture in a segment and in a bore in the web; the close clearance bolts are a close fit both in an aperture in a segment and a bore in the web; and the further bolts are a close fit in an aperture in a segment and a wide clearance fit in a bore in the web.

  • Patent number: 5137122
Abstract: A wheel comprises a central hub and an outer rim interconnected by a web, with a pair of annular braking discs being mounted one on each side of the web by connection assemblies each comprising a plate member slidably retained in a generally radially extending slot in the rear face of a braking disc. The plate members are preferably flexible and of a thickness less than the depth of the slot. Bolts secure the plate member to the web so that the braking discs are solely subjected to the pull of the flexed plate members irrespective of how tightly the bolts secure the plate member to the web.

  • Patent number: 5086885
Abstract: A disc brake comprising a clamp member which is slidably connected to a torque taking member, with a hydraulic actuator mechanism and an adjuster mechanism being located within the clamp member and a spring arranged to act on the clamp member and adjuster mechanism to provide a parking brake facility. The adjuster mechanism comprises an adjuster nut which is threadedly engaged on an axially movable actuator shaft which acts on a friction pad, the adjuster nut having an annular series of detent teeth formed on two axially and oppositely directed faces. The detent teeth are arranged such that when the teeth on one face of the adjuster nut are fully meshed with the teeth on a part of the adjuster mechanism on which the spring acts, the teeth on the detent collar are engaged with but offset from the teeth on the other face of the adjuster nut.
