    Abstract: A selective method for obtaining carbon-based two-dimensional and/or three-dimensional nano- or submicron-sized structures, including the following consecutive steps of selecting a suitable talc size, activating a surface of talc, thereby obtaining an activated surface; bringing the activated surface into contact with one or more polymers; and pyrolysis and/or carbonization of the polymers when in contact with the activated surface is provided. Depending on the aromaticity of polymers, growing 3D graphene structures may be initiated on the talc surface. The surface of the talc is activated with an activator selected from a list that includes carboxylic acids, metal salts and metal oxides. A hybrid additive which can be defined as talc provided with one or more carbon-based two and/or three-dimensional nano- or submicron-sized structures provided thereon is also provided.

    Abstract: A method for detecting risk biomarkers for chronic neurodegenerative disorder of central nervous system called Alzheimer's disease (AD) is provided. AD is the most common cause of dementia, and it is characterized by extracellular senile plaques formed by the accumulation of amyloid ? (A?) proteins and aggregation of tau proteins into intracellular neurofibrillary tangles in central nervous system. The present invention aims at developing a novel PoC based multiple AD biomarkers detection assay and method, such as A?1-40/A?1-42, tau protein and BDNF using multi-colored highly luminescent, non-photo-bleaching quantum dots (QDs), which provides an affordable and accurate means for early diagnosis of MCI, AD or dementia at homes, hospitals or near the patient bedsides.

    Abstract: A mixture comprising a linear copolymer comprising acrylic acid and 2-acrylamido-2-methyl propane sulfonic acid, water and one or more metal oxide ceramic nanoparticles with a mean particle size of up to 100 nanometers, preferably up to 60 nanometers, more preferably within the range between 20 nanometers and 60 nanometers, e.g., 40 nm. The mixture can be used in formation of doughs which are suitable for green machining. Molar ratio between acrylic acid and 2-acrylamido-2-methyl propane sulfonic acid in the copolymer can optionally be within the range between 0.8:1 and 1:0.8. In the mixture, the linear copolymer can be present at a concentration within an optional range between 1 wt. % and 2 wt. % based on total solid content.
