Publication number: 20150040916Abstract: A stabilizing mouthpiece includes features that reduce or prevent displacement of the mouthpiece either laterally or forward and backward when the mouthpiece is in use. In one implementation, the stabilizing mouthpiece may include one or more lateral shift guards that rest adjacent to inner or outer surfaces of a user's molars, incisors, or cuspids. In another implementation, the stabilizing mouthpiece may include elongated ridges or biased grips that resist posterior-to-anterior movement of the mouthpiece.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 8, 2013Publication date: February 12, 2015Applicant: Safe-T-Gard CorporationInventor: Sheila L. Gottsch

Patent number: 5732715Abstract: A resilient composition including a thermoplastic material and gas pockets dispersed therein, where the pockets being formed by a blowing agent. A mouthpiece including a resilient thermoplastic material having a quantity of gas pockets dispersed therein. A method of making a mouthpiece achieved by first mixing a predetermined quantity of blowing agent with a resilient thermoplastic material. The mixture is then heated to a predetermined temperature forming gas pockets therein from the decomposition of the blowing agent. The mixture is then ejection molded in a mold to form the mouthpiece. A mouthpiece including a U-shaped base having a U-shaped cross-section. The base including a lower, horizontal floor with upwardly extending inner lingual and outer labial walls and having a posterior section proximate the user's molar teeth and an anterior section proximate the user's canine and incisor teeth.Type: GrantFiled: June 25, 1996Date of Patent: March 31, 1998Assignee: Safe-T-Gard CorporationInventors: Scott Jacobs, Allison J. Patent number: 5405312Abstract: A custom fit body part guard or shield is disclosed which includes a thin shell formed from an ionomer resin which has a softening temperature within the range of 60.degree.-80.degree. C. The shell material of approximately 1-6 millimeters thickness is partially molded to fit the area of the body where the device is intended to be used. A layer of perforated foam material can be adhered to the inside surface of the guard to further protect the user's skin and absorb or distribute impact energy during use. By holding the guard under ordinary hot tap water it can be softened to a moldable consistency. By firmly applying and holding the guard on the surface of the area of the body where it is intended to be used and allowing the guard to cool to ambient temperature the guard will take a permanent set to a custom shape which follows the exact shape and contour of the body part.Type: GrantFiled: June 22, 1992Date of Patent: April 11, 1995Assignee: Safe-T-Gard CorporationInventor: Scott Jacobs
