Abstract: A telephone has a key pad with ten number keys arranged to dial the digits from 0 to 9 inclusive, each of these number keys being marked with a visual indicator denoting the digit which the number key is arranged to dial. The 1 and 9 number keys are provided with tactile indicators, distinguishable from one another by touch, so that a user can dial 911 by touch under conditions, such as in thick smoke or during a power failure, when the visual indicators on the keys are not readily distinguishable. The tactile indicators do not substantially obscure the visual indicators on the keys bearing the tactile indicators. An existing telephone may be retrofitted with the tactile indicators by providing two auxiliary members which can be secured to the 1 and 9 number keys, preferably with adhesive. Additional tactile indicators distinguishable by touch may be provided on other keys needed to dial 911 on cordless or cellular telephones, such as the on and send keys on such telephones.

Abstract: An electrical safety connector fuse for insertion into a two- or three-pin electrical socket comprises a sealed, tamper-proof housing having live and neutral apertures, and live and neutral receptacles for receiving the prongs of a plug, live and neutral prongs for insertion into the socket, and a fuse disposed within the housing. The connector fuse desirably has an internal light which lights up when the fuse is connected to a live socket, a blocking member or gate to prevent a user from receiving an electric shock by inserting objects into the live aperture of the fuse, and an insulting coating on at least a part of the live prong to prevent electric shocks as the fuse is inserted into a socket.

Abstract: An electrical outlet, used with a plug having live and neutral prongs of equal length, comprises support member having live and neutral apertures, and live and neutral receptacles for receiving the prongs. A blocking member lies between the support member and the receptacles, and moves between a closed position, in which it blocks the apertures, and an open position, it which it does not block these apertures, thus permitting the prongs to enter the receptacles. The blocking member is biased towards its closed position, but has a cam surface which contacts the entering neutral prong and moves the blocking member to its open position. The blocking member also has a recess so that, when the blocking member is in its closed position, a portion of the live prong can lie within the recess.
