Patents Assigned to Safeway Stores, Incorporated
  • Patent number: 4494582
Abstract: Ice cream making machine and method which automatically controls the weight of ice cream supplied to containers by increasing or decreasing the amount of overrun, depending upon whether or not the cartons in a production line are overweight or underweight with respect to a desired target weight. Correcting signals are derived at a weighing station which are proportional in time to the amount or underweight of an average group of weighed packages. Such signals are applied to structure which adjust to the amount of air being supplied to the ice cream mix.

  • Patent number: 4399658
Abstract: A system for producing refrigeration from a source of liquid carbon dioxide. The liquid carbon dioxide is injected through a nozzle into a primary stream within an elongate enclosure. The enclosure is mounted with its inlet end spaced about the nozzle to define an opening through which an annular stream of ambient gas is directed about the primary stream. The ambient gas turbulently intermixes with the injected coolant for subliming any solid carbon dioxide or snow so that the resulting stream exhausting from the enclosure is free of snow.

  • Patent number: 4180336
Abstract: Touch checking key tops for keyboard on a cash register in which the keyboard is provided with a plurality of keys arranged in a generally rectangular matrix with the keys being arranged in three rows extending in one direction and three rows extending in a direction at substantially right angles to the other three rows. The keys are assigned the digits 1 through 9 with four of the keys being disposed on the corners of the matrix. The keys have key tops. The key tops for the four keys on the four corners of the rectangular matrix have diagonally disposed ridges formed thereon which serve as tactile indicia to the operator using the keyboard to improve the operator's confidence and productivity and to minimize operator errors.

  • Patent number: 3988822
Abstract: Method for disassembling a wooden pallet. A vertically movable carrier is provided with a pair of horizontal tines which are insertable in the openings formed between the slats and ribs of a pallet. A plurality of upper and lower breaker members are mounted above and below the tines so as to register with the portions of the ribs located between adjacent slats. Actuating means is provided to move the tines up and down so that the slats of a pallet carried thereon are moved across the plane of the ends of the breaker members to cause the slats and ribs to be pulled apart and separated for salvage.

  • Patent number: 3961983
Abstract: Apparatus and method is disclosed for washing out the interiors of truck and trailer bodies. A washer head is carried on an elongate boom which is mounted on a pedestal for traversing movement along a horizontal axis. The boom is moved by means of a drive motor which is in engagement with a chain having its opposite ends secured to opposite ends of the boom. The washer head includes a frame which is mounted on an end of the boom for pivotal movement between elevated and lower positions. The frame is constructed in a four-bar linkage arrangement for movement through a lateral angle to accommodate any misalignment as the boom enters the trailer. A cam engages a hoist arm connected with the frame of the washer head, and a motor is controlled to rotate the cam for raising and lowering the washer head. The washer head mounts a brush which is operated as the boom withdraws from the trailer interior.
