  • Publication number: 20120003889
Abstract: A composite material comprises: an open grid comprising at least two sets of strands. Each set of strands has openings between adjacent strands. The sets are oriented at a substantial angle to one another. A tack film is laminated to the open grid. The tack film has first and second major surfaces, such that a material of the tack film at its first and second major surfaces is a material including about 50% or more of resinous non-asphaltic component and about 50% or less of asphaltic component.

  • Patent number: 7867350
Abstract: The present invention provides thickened fabrics and reinforcements for use as a spacer or reinforcement for a matrix system. The fabric includes in a first embodiment a woven fabric comprising weft and warp yarns containing glass fibers. A portion of the weft yarns are undulated, resulting in an increased thickness for the fabric. The fabric is coated with a polymeric resin or bonding agent, for substantially binding the weft yarns in the undulated condition. This invention also includes methods for making such fabric by increasing the thickness of a woven or non-woven material by such methods as applying tension during weaving operations, or using unbalanced yarns.

  • Patent number: 7846278
Abstract: A composite fabric for use in reinforcement of cementitious boards and similar prefabricated building wall panels. The fabric includes an open mesh first component of continuously coated, high modulus of elasticity strands and a nonwoven second component fabricated from alkali resistant thermoplastic material. The high modulus strands of the first component are preferably bundled glass fibers encapsulated by alkali and water resistant thermoplastic material. The composite fabric also has suitable physical characteristics for embedment within the cement matrix of the panels or boards closely adjacent the opposed faces thereof. The reinforcement provides long-lasting, high strength tensile reinforcement and impact resistance for the panels or boards. The reinforcement also enables the boards to have smooth outer faces suitable for painting, papering, tiling or other finishing treatment.

  • Patent number: 7803723
Abstract: The present invention provides glass fiber fabric reinforcements, cement boards, and glass fiber coatings for such reinforcements. The glass fiber fabric reinforcement includes a glass fabric containing multiple yarns containing glass filaments and a polymeric coating disposed onto the multiple yarns to form a coated glass fabric. The polymeric coating comprises a polyolefin based copolymer composition whereby the glass fabric has a Gurley Stiffness measurement of about 100-3000 mg and an ASTM D 638 (2% Secant) modulus of compression of about 1-100 MPa. The reinforcement is sufficiently drapable and lacking in shape memory so as to be curved around the edge of a cement board during the manufacture of same.

  • Patent number: 7699949
Abstract: The present invention provides thickened fabrics and reinforcements for use as a spacer or reinforcement for a matrix system. The fabric includes in a first embodiment a woven fabric comprising weft and warp yarns containing glass fibers. A portion of the weft yarns are undulated into a sinusoidal path forming a generally ā€œCā€ shaped bridge between adjacent warp yarns which results in an increased thickness for the fabric. The fabric is coated with a polymeric resin or bonding agent, for substantially binding the weft yarns in the undulated condition. This invention also includes methods for making such fabric by increasing the thickness of a woven or non-woven material by such methods as applying tension to warp yarns having opposite twists during weaving operations, or using unbalanced yarns, for example.

  • Patent number: 7615504
Abstract: A cementitious board and methods of making the same are disclosed by a cementitious board including a cementitious core, a plurality of warp yarns and weft yarns and a coating applied to produce a coating weight distribution ratio of less than about 2.0:1, based upon the weight of the resinous coating of the weft yarns, over the weight of the resinous coating on the warp yarns.

  • Patent number: 7615178
Abstract: Fabric and reinforcements are provided by this invention which, in a first embodiment, include a plurality of warp yarns having a first twist (turns/inch) and a plurality of weft yarns having a second twist which is greater than the first twist. A coating is applied over a substantial portion of the warp and weft yarns after they are assembled or laid together, so as to produce a weight distribution ratio of less than about 2.0:1, based upon the weight of the resinous coating of the weft yarns over the weight of the resinous coating on the warp yarns. This can be achieved, in substantial part, due to the difference in the twist ratios of the warp and weft yarns, which difference permits a more uniform coating to be applied. Further embodiments of this invention include a cementitious board and methods of making a coated fabric and cementitious board.
