Abstract: The selectivity and activity of a silver-based olefin epoxidation catalyst is found to be a function of the pore size distribution in the alumina carrier on which it is deposited. Specifically it is found advantageous to provide a carrier which has a minimum of very large pores, (greater than 10 micrometers) and a water absorption of 35 to 55% and a surface area of at least 1.0 m2/g. A method of making such carriers is also described.

Abstract: Seal devices of this invention are prepared by the process of depositing a polymer material onto a metallic substrate to form a composite construction, and shape forming the composite construction into the shape of a seal device. The so-formed seal device comprises a casing member that is formed from the metallic substrate, and a sealing element disposed along a surface of the casing member that is formed from the polymer material for placement against a sealing surface. Seal devices of this invention can be shaped formed into a variety of different types of seals, e.g., lips seals, L-shaped seals, and U-cup seals, which may or may not be energized. Seal devices prepared according to this invention using such preformed composite construction enable seal formation by a single step of shape forming, without having to both make and form individual seal members, and subsequently combine or join the separately formed seal members together.
Abstract: A ceramic component is disclosed, including a sintered ceramic body from a composition comprising a first ceramic material, and a plurality of inclusions in the ceramic body, each inclusion comprising graphite and a second ceramic material.
Abstract: A drainage assembly (10) comprises a frame (11) for defining at least part of the surface boundary of a surface drainage aperture; and a grating (14) having formed therein a plurality of apertures. The grating (14) is hingedly secured to the frame (11) and is moveable, when so secured, between an operative position in which the grating (14) is contiguous with the frame (11); and an open position in which the grating (14) lies hinged away from the frame (11).

Abstract: The invention relates to glazing that comprises at least one transparent substrate S provided with a stack of thin layers comprising an alternation of n functional layers A having reflection properties in the infrared and/or in solar radiation, especially metal layers, and (n+1) coatings B made of a dielectric, where n≧1. The stack satisfies the following criteria: at least one functional layer A is (i) directly in contact with the dielectric coating B placed on top of it and (ii) in contact with the dielectric B placed beneath it via a layer C that absorbs at least in the visible, of the metallic, optionally nitride, type.

Abstract: A thin-film solar cell and a method of producing a thin-film solar cell. The thin-film solar cell includes an absorber layer and at least one transparent window electrode. The window electrode is produced with a first metal-based thin-film, which receives an anti-reflection treatment, at least on the side of which the light is incident. Further, at least one first highly light-refracting oxide or nitride layer is provided between the absorbent layer and the first metallic layer. As a result, conductivity of the electrode window is improved and, at the same time, a thickness compared to conductivity of the window electrode is reduced.
Abstract: In a process for fashioning a portion of a profiled bead (2), which has been extruded onto an object, in particular a pane (1), fastened in a treatment station (E), in which process an initially shapeless accumulation of material (4) is produced in the portion in question, which accumulation of material is given a final shape corresponding to the uniform cross section, of the profiled bead (2) by means of a moving tool (5), any excess material being expelled in order to be removed, the mass of material (4) is produced by the superposition of two portions of the extruded strip, the second portion being deposited after the die (D) has been moved and repositioned. Advantageously, the tool (5) is, according to the invention, automatically aligned on the profiled bead (2), immediately after the accumulated material (4) has been extruded and after the extrusion die (D) has continued its travel, without moving the object, and is brought into contact with this bead.

Abstract: An adhesive for use in coated abrasive belt joints includes a blocked isocyanate, urethane system. The blocking agent can include phenols, oximes, alcohols, caprolactam, and diethyl malonate. The adhesive can be crosslinked with amine or alcohol. A coated abrasive belt is formed by attaching a plurality of abrasive particles to a first surface of a backing layer. A size coat is deposited over the abrasive particles to form a coated abrasive. The coated abrasive is cut to form a strip having a first end and a second end. The ends of the strip are joined with an adhesive including a blocked isocyanate, urethane system.
