Abstract: A method of transmitting a signal formed from data symbols over a wireless communication link in a multi carrier code division multiple access communication system, in which the data symbols are spread over multiple sub-carriers in accordance with a code of predetermined length, comprising the steps of: allocating the bandwidth available for use by the system into a plurality of sub carrier frequency groups, de-multiplexing the signal into a first set of data symbols to be spread over a first group of sub carrier frequencies, and de-multiplexing the signal into a second set of data symbols to be spread over a second group of sub carrier frequencies.
