Patent number: 11897714Abstract: Improved apparatus and methods of operating a turn up apparatus on a paper machine to improve the performance of a paper machine turn up process is presented. The apparatus may include a cross track with an internal slot for a paperband to move upon and affixed a surface that is proximate to the first internal slot. The first apron may lie across a surface above a location for the paperband and interact with the paperband when the paperband is pulled out of the apparatus during a turn-up operation. An apron tensioning device may provide an additional force against an edge of a surface of the apron. A curved track may hold the paperband at an angle to an axis of the cross track, and the paperband feeding device may advance the paperband during a portion of a turn-up operation.Type: GrantFiled: October 14, 2022Date of Patent: February 13, 2024Assignee: Sandar Industries, Inc.Inventors: Peter A. Patent number: 11834287Abstract: Apparatus and methods for improved turn-up procedures on a paper making machine that include a flexible portion of a turn-up tape track and movement of a track curve portion to avoid interference with threading a paper web to a spool. A transverse turn-up tape track may be extended across a first spool to a track curve and the track curve may be set at a lower position that does not interfere with a paper web during threading, and subsequently repositioned to a position from which a turn-up position may be performed. The paper web threading leader may continue to be wound around the first spool until a full width of the paper web has been spooled onto the first spool. The transverse turn-up tape track may be maintained essentially stationary relative to the first spool.Type: GrantFiled: January 5, 2023Date of Patent: December 5, 2023Assignee: Sandar Industries, Inc.Inventors: Peter A Rodriguez, Jason Rodriguez, Craig Austin, Richard Tyler Cernich

Patent number: 6575395Abstract: A track and flap assembly includes a brake section and terminates with a curved section and a support member, for guiding a cutting tape transversely across a moving web of paper, and employs a plurality of movable sections enabling relocation of the brake section, and the curved section and its support member without changing their configuration to accommodate different trim widths of the web. The assembly includes a track that has an open channel containing the cutting tape and at least one flap for frictionally engaging the cutting tape when the tape exits laterally from the channel to assist in controlling the tension thereon and its movement. A pair of flaps may extend over a portion of the channel less than the entire width of the channel, and a third flap may overlie and at least cover the space between the pair of flaps forming a complete seal therein. A single flap may form with the channel the top of the guideway for the tape.Type: GrantFiled: September 19, 2001Date of Patent: June 10, 2003Assignee: Sandar Industries, Inc.Inventor: Peter A. The outer edge portions of the coverings extend outwardly beyond the sidewalls of the core member. The core is glued to at least one covering member. The outer edges of the covering members are also glued together. Preferably, all members are formed of repulpable fibers or biodegradable materials and are attached with water soluble, biodegradable adhesive. Alternatively core members can be formed of various synthetic materials or metal for greater strength if necessary.Type: GrantFiled: October 20, 1999Date of Patent: August 27, 2002Assignee: Sandar Industries, Inc.Inventor: Peter A.
