Abstract: The invention refers to a method and apparatus for joining the edges of a tubular knitted article, such as a stocking, upon the completion of the latter on a circular machine; the apparatus comprises a movable carrier able to be associated with a knitting head of a circular machine, and the said carrier supports means for the removal of stitches of the last knitted rank, in which the means operate the removal of one semi-rank, that is, of half the stitches of said last knitted rank, and the means operate the removal of the other semi-rank; the movable carrier being provided with driving means and transfer means able to move the stitches of one semi-rank onto the means which remove the other semi-rank.

Abstract: The invention concerns a knitted-fabric garment in the shape of underpants, in which the crutch area is made up by a knitted-fabric prolongation without interruption with the rear part and folded up in order to be placed upon the front part of the garment body, forming there a front central panel. This front panel is fixed only at the outer points of a free end of the front part and at level with the waist-encircling edge, defining with the front part two side symmetrical openings, both communicating with a horizontal opening that comes out between the panel itself and the front-part free end. The invention concerns also a manufacturing method of the said garment.

Abstract: The invention concerns a device for varying the length of stitches on circular hosiery and knitting machines, which includes means for rigidly anchoring the cylinder to the cylinder support, vertical guide means of the sinker bed with respect to the cylinder, and means for changing the height of the sinker bed to several positions between the two lowered and raised limit positions, in order to vary the level of the stitch formation plane defined by the sinkers in relation to the needles on the cylinder that remain in a fixed position. The invention involves also a circular knitting machine incorporating such a device.

Abstract: The invention concerns a method and a circular machine for manufacturing socks with closed toes with the use of picking-up means placed on several linked sectors, which are movable between an annular position corresponding to the cylinder with needles of the machine and a linear position on two parallel touching lines. The sock is picked-up from the cylinder by the pick-up means in the first position and transferred away from the machine, and while the machine can be restarted, the sock is turned upside down, the linked sectors supporting the pick-up means closed to form to parallel rows and the ends of the sock joined so as to close the toe.

Abstract: The invention concerns a method of producing a knit fabric which is patterned and at least partially plated, on a circular machine equipped with a cylinder with needles (12) and sinkers (14), comprising the use of a first strand and a second strand (A, B) which are different at least in colour and which are fed to the needles through the sinkers, and the positioning of the strands through selection and a programmed longitudinal movement of the sinkers in such a way as to arrange alternately, one or other of the two strands on the reverse side and face side of the resulting knit fabric, without cutting the strands, creating patterns which are different in colour at least, in the fabric areas in which there is, on the face side or in view, one or other of the strands. This method can be used both for the production of smooth plated fabric and for the production of fabric which is part terry and part plated.

Abstract: The invention relates to a double cylinder circular knitting machine which comprises at least one nozzle (18) providing a blast of air close to a yarn cutting-and-locking unit (13) to divert the ends of yarns cut and held by the said unit towards the interior of the cylinder, that is towards the reverse side of the item being manufactured. At the same time each cam (14, 21) for moving the needles where the yarns are picked up from the yarn guides is located and configured to move the needles at a predetermined distance from the yarn cutting-and-locking unit so as to leave a space for diverting the end (20) of the cut yarn towards the interior of the cylinder.

Abstract: A method for selecting the needles in the production of a held stitch and a dropped stitch on circular stocking knitting machines, knitting machines and the like with one or more feed stations and selection units which operate the needles by use of jacks. The method includes prearranging two consecutive selection units (15, 16) in the feed station or in each feed station and using, starting from a condition of preventive extraction of all jacks with the respective needles lowered, one selection unit to control the needles that must knit the held stitch and the other selection unit to control the needles that must knit the dropped stitch.

The device includes a lifting pipe 15 coaxial inside the cylinder, rotating with this, moveable in height between a lowered position and a raised position, and one bearing a summit bell 16 with a flared lip 19, which extends above the internal sinker crown to the close vicinity of the needs and which has radial slits 20 in line with the sinkers 12. The pipe with the summit bell is raised from the lowered position by dedicated control structure to raise the item, especially at areas closest to the needles.

Abstract: A device for the selection of the sinkers for the manufacture of designed terry cloth knitwear on circular knitting machines and stocking knitting machines. Each sinker (13) is capable of oscillations in a vertical plane between a canceled, resting position, in which its tail end (21) is not intercepted by a return cam (24), and an operating position, in which its tail end interacts with the return cam for the longitudinal movements of the sinker. The sinker also has a bottom part that interacts with inlet and outlet cams, and the sinker can be moved from the canceled, resting position to the operating position by a selection device acting on an oscillating selector associated with the shaft of the sinker.

Abstract: A method and circular stocking knitting and knitting machine are disclosed. The method includes providing a first base yarn and a second base yarn for the manufacture of a basic knit fabric and a dyed yarn of a design, providing only one control for selecting the needles of the design at each feeding station of the machine and selecting the needles which must form the design such that each of the selected needles picks up and knits the dyed yarn of the design and the second base yarn dropping or discarding the first base yarn, while the remaining unselected needles pick up and knit the base yarns, discarding the dyed yarn of the design. Abstract: A device is disclosed for positioning a knitting cam in circular knitting and stocking knitting machines. The knitting cam (11) is fixed to a slide (13), which can be moved on a support (15) by means of an eccentric ring rotated by a motor. The slide with knitting cam is provided with a first needle (18), resting on and following the eccentric inner profile of a second needle (19) resting on and following the outer surface of the eccentric ring (17) so as to move and position the slide in response to the rotation of the ring.
