  • Patent number: 7484752
Abstract: A vehicle airbag apparatus in which a frame and reinforcement members can be vibration-welded to an instrument panel with uniform strength and without distortion or discoloration of the instrument panel cover caused by the vibration welding. First weld ribs on a frame and second weld ribs on reinforcement members joined to the frame have a length which extends in the direction of vibration welding. The lengths of the first weld ribs and the second weld ribs extending in the vibration direction are set to be three times or more as long as an amplitude of the vibration welding. Passages for flowing a cooling fluid along the first weld ribs are provided on the joining surfaces of the joint flange, and furthermore, passages for flowing the cooling fluid along the second weld ribs may be provided on the joining surfaces of the reinforcements.

  • Publication number: 20080206495
Abstract: A large number of small reflection portions are continuously formed over a back face of a base member opposite the light impinging side, in an arbitrary arrangement. The small reflection portions are each formed to have a boundary surface for reflection, interference, and diffraction of incident light impinging onto the base member, to thereby produce random changes in the brightness of reflection light over the entirety of the decoration panel. A reflection layer is formed on the boundary surfaces of the small reflection portions such that the boundary surfaces function as mirror surfaces and reflect light propagating through the base member toward the front face of the base member.

The small reflection portions are each formed to have a boundary surface for reflection, interference, and diffraction of incident light impinging onto the base member, to thereby produce random changes in the brightness of reflection light over the entirety of the decoration panel. The small reflection portions have concave boundary surfaces having three-dimensional shape determined though imparting a 1/f fluctuation to a triangular-roof-like basic shape. When at least one of the direction of the incident light in relation to the base member, a viewing point in relation to the base member, and the position of the base member is changed, the small reflection portions generate an irregularly changing light-dark pattern in the brightness of reflection right from the small reflection portions.

  • Patent number: 7354061
Abstract: An airbag apparatus for a vehicle includes an interior panel, an airbag; an inflater, a frame, and a pair of reinforcement members. When the airbag inflates, a fracture-opening section of the interior panel is ruptured and divided into two fracture-opening subsections, which are turned outward about hinge portions of the reinforcement members in a manner of a casement. Hinge motion restricting members are provided on the frame. When the fracture-opening subsections are turned, the hinge motion restricting members come into engagement with the hinge portions. This configuration eliminates interference between the fracture-opening subsections and the interior panel, which interference would otherwise occur when the fracture-opening subsections are opened in the manner of a casement.

  • Patent number: 7168731
Abstract: An airbag apparatus uses an interior panel of an automobile. The interior panel is formed of a multi-layer sheet including a surface layer, an intermediate foam layer, and a base layer. The interior panel has front and rear hinge grooves and left and right fracture grooves for defining a fracture-opening section, and a center fracture groove for dividing the fracture-opening section into front and rear fracture-opening subsections to be split apart from each other in a casement condition. The hinge grooves, the center fracture groove, and the left and right fracture grooves are formed of laser-machined holes which have different depths and do not pass through the surface layer of the interior panel.

  • Patent number: 7165782
Abstract: An airbag apparatus utilizes an interior panel of a vehicle. The interior panel has a rectangular fracture-opening section defined by at least one hinge groove and one fracture groove formed on an inside surface of the interior panel through irradiation with laser pulses. The fracture groove includes bridge portions and continuous hole portions provided alternately. Each of the bridge portions includes no laser-formed hole and has a thickness equal to the interior panel. Each of the continuous hole portions is composed of first holes for fracture which have a first depth and are successively formed between adjacent bridge portions through irradiation with laser pulses, and second holes which have a second depth smaller than the first depth and are each formed between adjacent first holes, through irradiation with laser pulses, so as to remove an original-thickness portion between the adjacent first holes.

  • Publication number: 20060267314
Abstract: An airbag cover includes a panel member composed of a substrate, a foam layer, and a surface layer. A fracture groove is formed on the reverse surface of the panel member so as to define in a fracture-opening section thereof two fracture-opening subsections openable in the manner of a casement. The fracture groove has a depth corresponding to the thickness of the substrate or a depth slightly greater than the thickness of the substrate. This configuration prevents generation of sink marks or depressions on the surface of the cover. The fracture groove is composed of a straight center fracture groove section, two V-shaped branch fracture groove sections extending from the opposite ends of the center fracture groove section, and side fracture groove sections extending from distal ends of the V-shaped branch fracture groove sections in opposite directions perpendicularly to the center fracture groove section.
