Patent number: 4668087Abstract: A sensor (10) for measurement of the deflection of a machine element comprises a detecting portion, a light source, a light detector, and connected guides. An electronic data processing unit is connected to the sensor. The detecting portion comprises a tuft of optical fibers, a focusing lens fitted into a tube, and a mirror separated from the tube. The deflection of the machine element (17) caused by the work piece results in an inclination of the mirror relative to the center line of the tube, and therefore a light beam from the light source is reflected in the mirror towards a point on the end of the fiber tuft which is arranged at a distance from the center line. This reflected light is transferred to the light detector for transmission of an analogous signal to the electronic unit in which the value of the deflection is determined.Type: GrantFiled: November 21, 1985Date of Patent: May 26, 1987Assignee: Santrade LimitedInventors: Ingemar H. Patent number: 4648760Abstract: The invention relates to a short-hole drill and a cutting insert therefor, for drilling of metallic work pieces. The drill comprises a drill shank with two chip flutes formed therein and with two cutting insert sites and two mainly rectangular cutting inserts having mutually identical shaping. The cutting inserts are accommodated in the cutting insert sites and secured thereto by means of lock screws such that the broken non-active cutting edge abuts against a broken support surface in each cutting insert site while the active cutting edge projects axially forwards. The cutting insert which is arranged radially outermost is inclined such that it determines the size of the bore while the longitudinal axis of the other cutting insert is arranged parallel to the center line (CL) of the drill. The distance between the outermost parts of each cutting edge is longer than the shortest distance between the long side surfaces of the cutting insert.Type: GrantFiled: October 31, 1985Date of Patent: March 10, 1987Assignee: Santrade LimitedInventors: Kurt O. Patent number: 4632606Abstract: An indexible insert is mounted on a shank. The insert includes angled centering surfaces which engage angled localizing surfaces on the shank. The insert includes abutment surfaces which engage support surfaces on the shank. The point of contact between the abutment and support surfaces is located farther from the working cutting edge than is the point of contact between the centering and localizing surfaces. Thus, when the working cutting edge is acted upon by a lateral force, the abutment and support surfaces bear against each other with a greater force than do the centering and localizing surfaces. Accordingly, less wear occurs at the centering surfaces.Type: GrantFiled: September 6, 1985Date of Patent: December 30, 1986Assignee: Santrade LimitedInventor: Stig E. V. Lagerberg

Patent number: 4632607Abstract: An indexable cutting insert (10) for a tool (18) adapted to cut internal right-angled corners in a work piece (19). The insert (10) has a square configuration and comprises a top major surface (11), a bottom major surface (12) and connecting side surfaces (13). The lines of junction between the top major surface and the side surfaces define the main cutting edges (14) and the minor cutting edges (15). The main cutting edges (14) transite into the second cutting edges (15) in the corners of the insert. Each second cutting edge (15D) projects from the square basical shape so that it will lift the inactive main cutting edge (14A) from the machined surface under the insert.Type: GrantFiled: March 14, 1985Date of Patent: December 30, 1986Assignee: Santrade LimitedInventor: Glenn G.
