  • Patent number: 5259237
Abstract: Method and apparatus for leak-testing a filled and closed flexible package, in which the package is placed on a vertically movable support member and is compressed between the support member and a pressure member bearing on the top of the package as a result of relative movement of these members towards each other. The change in the pressure is measured for a fixed measuring time and from this the presence or absence of a leak is determined. The support member supports the package, substantially completely filled with a liquid product, by means of springs. The package is compressed by lowering the pressure member onto the package, the support member thereby being pressed downwards against the spring force acting on the support member. For a fixed measuring time, the change in the spring force is measured for determining possible leakage of liquid from the compressed package.

  • Patent number: 5242232
Abstract: A dispenser for liquid material, such as shoe polish, comprising a container (1) and an applicator (2) by means of which a small quantity of the material (P) can be removed from the container (1) by dipping and then applied to a surface to be treated with the material (P). In this dispenser the applicator (2) has a length relative to the height of the container (1) such that in the inserted position of the applicator (2) the spongy applicator end (16) is at least partially compressed against the container bottom. A tube (5) is arranged in the container (1), which tube (5) extends from the mouth of the container (1) down into the vicinity of the bottom thereof. At least the lower end of the tube (5) forms a proper fit for an applicator (2) inserted therein and the space within the tube (5) communicates through at least one passage with the annular container space around the tube (5).

  • Patent number: 5228270
Abstract: Method and apparatus for processing a vacuum-package made from a thin-walled and flexible packaging foil, filled with a granular material, wherein the package is arranged with clearance in a holder having walls adapted for mutual relative movement, suction means create a pressure in the space around the package that is lower than the vacuum pressure in the package so that the walls of the package are straightened, the holder walls are moved towards each other by pressing means so that the straightened walls of the package are pressed against the contents of the package, the low pressure around the package is removed, the holder walls are retracted and the package is removed from the holder.

  • Patent number: 5220768
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for making a vacuum-package filled with granular material. In this method, the package filled with granular material and made from a thin-walled and flexible packaging foil is placed in a holder surrounding the bottom and sidewalls of the package and comprising flat, parallel walls, and a vacuum is applied to the contents of the package and the package is subsequently vacuum-sealed hermetically. According to the invention, the contents of the package, during at least a part of the evacuation step, are compressed by moving the flat and parallel walls of at least one pair of opposite sidewalls of the holder toward each other in mutually parallel manner against the package. The invention further relates to an apparatus for use in the invention.

  • Patent number: 5181753
Abstract: A device for attaching a water jet device to a concentrate container or a reservoir by means of a clamping device or a foot, comprising a connecting piece, in which the foot is arranged to be fixed and put into sealing abutment with the insert piece in one movement, for which purpose the connecting piece is provided externally with threaded parts designed to cooperate through a bayonet catch with a complementarily designed part of the foot. The container, which is designed as a flexible bag, may be provided with a base plate at the position of the connecting piece, said connecting piece being designed as an insert piece, so as to ensure that the outlet opening of the insert piece remains open.

  • Patent number: 5178058
Abstract: An apparatus for preparing a number of consumption units of a beverage, such as coffee or tea, comprising a beverage making apparatus with a hot water outflow passage, a filterpan and a disposable filter cartridge which fits into the filterpan, the filterpan and filter cartridge are adapted to form a watertight seal, and a support surface being provided for a vessel for receiving the extract. The apparatus has a filterpan ring which prevents the hot water form reaching an internal bottom peripheral surface of the filterpan before the heated water contacts a central portion of an upper surface of the cartridge.

  • Patent number: 5083503
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for making beverages, such as coffee, soup, tea, or the like, wherein a starting product, such as ground coffee, is supplied to a cavity and is enclosed therein by a piston. After this, through an opening provided in the piston, a quantity of fluid, in this case water, originating from a water system is pressed into said cavity. Hereafter, the fluid, after extraction of the starting product contained in the chamber, in this case filling chamber, is discharged through an opening near the end opposite the piston, the control of this process taking place electronically. The method is characterized in that use is made of an apparatus having at least two filling chambers of different size and mounted on a movable holder and that the various steps are performed during a single cycle of the holder.

  • Patent number: 5020930
Abstract: A dispenser for viscous material, such as shoe polish, comprising a substantially cylindrical reservoir having near one reservoir end a filling discharge passage terminating in a distribution channel extending through a porous applicator. At least a part of the dispenser wall is deformable for pressing the filling out of the reservoir through the filling discharge passage into the distribution channel. The dispenser is characterized in that at the other end of the reservoir (16,24), there is provided a follower piston (6,28) which, while confining the filling at the discharge end of the reservoir, under the influence of a force exerted axially on the piston body (6,24), is movable stepwise in the direction of the filling discharge passage (9,29). The dispenser is further provided with pumping means operative upon deformation of the deformable portion (3,34) of the dispenser wall (2,25), which portion is resilient.
