Patent number: 7310324Abstract: The present invention provides an improved transmitter for processing data blocks including bits of data coming from multiple transport channels in a transmitter of a radio communication system supporting variable data-rate transmissions. This is accomplished by using a computationally efficient technique for processing the received data blocks for variable data rate transmissions. The improved transmitter receives the data blocks including the bits of data from multiple transport channels. The transmitter then forms rectangular arrays including a predetermined number of columns and rows using the received bits of data such that the columns are based on a segmented radio frame size suitable for variable data-rate transmission. The transmitter then equalizes and interleaves the formed columns and reads out bits of data in the equalized and interleaved columns column-by-column. The transmitter then multiplexes the read-out bits of data for variable data-rate transmissions.Type: GrantFiled: February 25, 2003Date of Patent: December 18, 2007Assignee: Sasken Communication Technologies LimitedInventor: Kiran T

Publication number: 20070097890Abstract: An apparatus and method for canceling an echo signal is disclosed. The apparatus includes an echo filter, an up-sampler, an interpolation filter, and a signal combining apparatus. The echo filter filters the transmitted signal, the up-sampler up-samples the output of the echo filter, the interpolation filter filters the up-sampled output to generate a signal that emulates the echo signal, and the signal combining apparatus combines the signal emulating the echo signal with the received signal to remove echo signal. The method estimates an impulse response of the echo channel for estimation of filter coefficients of an echo filter. The transmit signal is then filtered in the echo filter to generate an output, which is up-sampled to generate another output. The up-sampled output is filtered by the interpolation filter to generate a signal that emulates the echo signal, which is then combined with the received signal to cancel the echo signal.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 28, 2005Publication date: May 3, 2007Applicant: SASKEN COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGIES LIMITEDInventor: M. Patent number: 7106784Abstract: A universal rake receiver architecture includes modular independent processing units that can be flexibly programmed to support different modes of operation. The processing units are capable of performing the basic correlation calculations of DS-CDMA and each unit has an internal local memory and controller that controls its mode of operation. Each unit performs the required synchronization and demodulation operations for a multipath of a signal in the digital domain using all-digital frequency and timing correction techniques. Frequency feedback need not be supplied to the analog section of the receiver. Interpolation most preferably is used to find the optimum sampling position of each incoming chip. This independence allows the receiver to be used with one to several antennas without design modifications.Type: GrantFiled: January 25, 2002Date of Patent: September 12, 2006Assignee: Sasken Communication Technologies LimitedInventors: Ahmed Eltawil, Babak Daneshrad

Patent number: 6963833Abstract: The invention relates to improving parameter estimation and speech synthesis. Pursuant to one aspect of the invention, a path of pitch candidates having low errors is tracked to determine a pitch estimate. Pursuant to another aspect of the invention, a number of parameters are used to classify speech segments. Pursuant to another aspect of the invention, a voicing parameter is determined using a threshold value and bands are marked voiced or unvoiced depending on two error functions that compare synthesized voiced and unvoiced spectra to an original speech spectrum. Pursuant to another aspect of the invention a voicing parameter is used to facilitate lower bits for transmitting voicing decisions. Last, pursuant to other aspects of the invention, unvoiced speech is synthesized by incorporating a random generator, and harmonics phases are initialized with a fixed set of values.Type: GrantFiled: October 26, 2000Date of Patent: November 8, 2005Assignee: Sasken Communication Technologies LimitedInventor: Manoj Kumar Singhal

Patent number: 6870491Abstract: The present invention provides a fast data converter for decoding compressed image data. This is accomplished by using a series of parallel and serial computational steps to decompress the compressed image data and reduce processing cycle time. The high speed decoder receives the input data stream including first and second parameters having initial values and which are representative of properties of the data stream, and a third parameter having a value which is representative of a decoding property of the decoder. The decoder then decodes the initial values of the first, second, and third parameters to determine updated values of the first and second parameters by using a combination of parallel and serial processing steps. The decoder then compares the determined value of the reference parameter with the computed first subtraction value and outputs updated values for the first and second parameters based on the outcome of the comparison by the comparator to reduce decoding cycle time.Type: GrantFiled: September 13, 2001Date of Patent: March 22, 2005Assignee: Sasken Communication Technologies LimitedInventor: Amogh D. Publication number: 20030053543Abstract: The present invention provides an improved motion estimation encoder for digital video encoding applications. In one example embodiment, the improved encoder receives a raw image in the form of a current frame and estimates the macroblock motion vector with respect to a reference frame. The encoder then performs an initial local search around an initial motion vector candidate derived from spatio-temporal neighboring macroblock parameters. The encoder then compares the user-defined complexity scalable sum of absolute difference between the original and the associated reference macroblock against an adaptive threshold value for motion estimation convergence. The encoder introduces a global full search around a candidate from a coarser level, in case an initial local search fails.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 24, 2002Publication date: March 20, 2003Applicant: Sasken Communication Technologies LimitedInventors: Sandip Bhaumik, Murali Manohor, K.N.
