    Abstract: Disclosed herein is a fluorine-containing protoporphyrin derivative of formula (I): ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 each independently is --CH.dbd.CH.sub.2 or --CH.dbd.CF.sub.2 with the proviso that R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 cannot both be --CH.dbd.CH.sub.2 ; and salts thereof.They have remarkable property of peculiarly concentrating or accumulating in the cancer tissues, and very useful as a diagnostic agent of minute cancer in a NMR diagnosis method.

    Abstract: Disclosed herein is a deuteroporphyrin derivative represented by the following general formula: ##STR1## wherein one of R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 means --CH(CH.sub.3)--OR, R being a lower alkyl group, and the other denotes --CH.dbd.CH.sub.2, or R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 both mean --CH(CH.sub.3)--OR, R having the same meaning as defined above, or a salt thereof. The deuteroporphyrin derivative or its salt can be readily obtained in its pure form and is useful as a photosensitizer in the laser irradiation therapy of cancers.
