  • Patent number: 9932803
Abstract: A laser-jet apparatus for creating a penetration through a stress region adjacent to a wellbore includes an outer tool housing, the outer tool housing having a housing central bore. A laser assembly includes a lens case with an outer diameter that is smaller than an inner diameter of the housing central bore, defining an annular passage between the outer tool housing and the lens case. A focusing lens and a collimating lens are located within the lens case. The focusing lens is shaped to control the divergence of a laser beam and the collimating lens is shaped to fix the diameter of the laser beam. A jet fluid path is located in the annular passage, the jet fluid path shaped to merge jet fluid with the laser beam. The outer tool housing has a frusto-conical tip for directing the combined jet fluid and laser beam to the stress region.

  • Publication number: 20180087366
Abstract: A system and method of producing a deposit of gas and liquid hydrocarbons from a subterranean formation, where a pressure of the gas hydrocarbons is regulated. Strategically regulating a pressure of the gas hydrocarbons prevents the gas hydrocarbons from expanding into a path of the liquid hydrocarbons flowing to a wellbore. The liquid hydrocarbons are produced through a production well that is drilled from surface and into a zone within the subterranean formation containing the deposit. A gas expansion circuit is also drilled through the formation, and has a portion that terminates proximate an interface between the gas and liquid hydrocarbons. Thus as the gas hydrocarbons expand into spaces left empty by draining the liquid hydrocarbons, the expanding gas is diverted into the gas expansion circuit rather than into the path of liquid hydrocarbons still in the zone. The gas expansion circuit can have a “fish-bone” configuration.

  • Publication number: 20180079947
Abstract: A composition and method of forming a wellbore cement that includes a cross-linked polyamide. The polyamide is formed by reacting a di-functional amine with an aromatic tri-functional carboxylic acid. The wellbore cement composition is created by blending cement and water with the polyamide and then allowed to cure. Increases in compressive strength, Young's Modulus, and Poisson's Ratio of the cement were realized by adding the polyamide to the cement composition.

  • Publication number: 20180073348
Abstract: A method of forming a wellbore with a drill string and that includes continuously and automatically measuring a TARE value of the drill string. The TARE value of the drill string is measured while the drill string is rotating, fluid is circulating in the drill string, and after the drill string has been axially stationary for a set period of time. The TARE value is designated as an average of the measured hook load over the latter half of the set period of time. Knowing the measured TARE value and a designated weight on bit (“WOB”) of the drill string, a hook load for supporting the drill string is calculated. Matching the force applied that supports the drill string to the calculated hook load results in an actual WOB that matches the designated WOB.

  • Patent number: 9915134
Abstract: An integrated system is disclosed to handle production of multiphase fluid consisting of oil, gas and water. The production stream is first separated into two streams: a liquid dominated stream (GVF<5% for example) and a gas dominated stream (GVF>95% for example). The separation can be done through shrouds, cylindrical cyclonic, gravity, in-line or the like separation techniques. The two streams are then routed separately to pumps which pump dissimilar fluids, such as a liquid pump and a gas compressor, and subsequently recombined. Both pumps are driven by a single motor shaft which includes an internal passageway associated with one of the pumps for reception of the fluid from the other pump, thereby providing better cooling and greater overall efficiency of all systems associated therewith. A method for providing artificial lift or pressure boosting of multiphase fluid is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 9909068
Abstract: The invention relates to processes for producing anode grade coke from whole crude oil. The invention is accomplished by first deasphalting a feedstock, followed by processing resulting DAO and asphalt fractions. The DAO fraction is hydrotreated or hydrocracked, resulting in removal of sulfur and hydrocarbons, which boil at temperatures over 370° C., and gasifying the asphalt portion in one embodiment. This embodiment includes subjecting hydrotreated and/or unconverted DAO fractions to delayed coking. In an alternate embodiment, rather than gasifying the asphalt portion, it is subjected to delayed coking in a separate reaction chamber. Any coke produced via delayed coking can be gasified.
