Abstract: A method of manufacturing an absorbent article in the form of a pants-type diaper or a sanitary panty starts from a flat blank which includes an elongated absorbent body (5) enclosed between two casing sheets (2, 9) which at opposing front and rear end parts of the absorbent body have side parts which extend laterally beyond the body on opposite sides thereof. The method includes the step of folding the blank about a transverse axis so that the end edges of the side parts lie edge-to-edge. The front and rear side parts of the blank which oppose one another in the folded state of the blank are joined together by a releasable and refastenable fastener (20).

Abstract: A waist belt for supporting disposable-type absorbent articles (7), such as incontinence guards or diapers which comprise a front part, a rear part and an intermediate crotch part, wherein the belt can be fastened to the rear part of the article and when fastened to the rear part of the article comprises two front portions (3, 4) which project out laterally from mutually opposing side edges of the rear part of the article and which can be fastened together through the medium of mechanical fastener elements (12, 14) to form a waist band and which taper towards their respective ends over at least a substantial part of their lengths. Each of the front portions includes first fastener elements (12, 13) which are disposed on the outside of the belt, i.e. that side which faces outwardly in relation to the wearer's body in use, and which extend at least over essentially the whole of the tapering portions of the front portions (10, 11) along the longitudinal symmetry lines thereof.

The core has a first end portion (30), a second end portion (32) and a mid portion (34) located between the end portions. The article further includes a liquid permeable topsheet (36) extending over the upper surface (14) and a liquid impermeable sheet (38) covering the longitudinal edge portions (18, 20) of the absorbent core (12). A strip of generally hydrophobic resilient material (40) is placed between the liquid impermeable sheet (38) and the absorbent core (12) along each longitudinal edge portion (18, 20) of the absorbent core in at least the mid portion (34) to thereby increase the flexure resistance of the article.

Characteristic for the invention is that at least one of the end portions of the absorbent body has a longitudinally tapering shape with a rounded outer edge and that an elastic means is pretensionally applied in a cover enclosing the absorbent body and extends across the article and in a curved path outside the rounded end portion of the absorbent body and equidistantly from the rounded edge. Due to its striving to contract, the elastic means in the curved path section exerts tensile forces across the elastic in a direction towards the center of curvature of the curved path section. When the article is in use, the elastic means, due to the tensile force, lifts the cover around the rounded edge of the absorbent body for formation of a leakage barrier which projects vertically above the absorbent body.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of producing a plurality of strips starting from a single sheet (1) of elastic film, wherein said single sheet (1) is fed in a longitudinal forward direction (X) up to a severing zone (b), in which the sheet is severed longitudinally into a plurality of strips (2-6), said plurality of strips then being fed further in the forward direction, while simultaneously being stretched in said longitudinal direction to thereby reduce their width (e) and thickness. The invention also relates to an absorbent product which makes use of a plurality of strips which are flat, thin and rectangular in one or more elasticated areas of said product to provide good and uniform breathing ability along said elasticated area(s).

Abstract: An absorbent article such as a sanitary napkin, a panty liner or an incontinence pad, which is intended to be substantially accommodated within a user's panties and comprising an upper absorbent part (2) and a lower absorbent part (3), whereby the upper absorbent part (2) forms a raised portion (26) projecting from the lower absorbent part (3) and has a lesser extension in the transverse direction of the article than the lower absorbent part (3). A porous liquid acquisition layer (28) is arranged between the two absorbent parts (2,3) and has a density which is less than the density in both the upper absorbent part (2) and the lower absorbent part (3).

Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for ultrasonic welding of material webs which move between at least one ultrasonic horn of an ultrasonic welding arrangement and an anvil holder having a determined pattern of anvils, so as to enable the webs to be welded at high web speeds. The weld width of each ultrasonic horn in the ultrasonic welding arrangement is determined in accordance with the intended highest travel speed of the webs.

Abstract: The invention relates to a sheathing laminate for an absorbent product, such as a sanitary napkin, a diaper, an incontinence protector or the like, and which is to be used as a liquid permeable top layer, which, when the product is in use, faces the body of the user. The laminate (30) comprises a web (10) of plastic film, to one side of which are fixed two mutually spaced, longitudinal strips (14, 16) of non-woven material, while to the other side of the plastic film web (10)--in an area between the two strips (14, 16) on the opposite side of the plastic film web--there is fixed a longitudinal intermediate strip (26) of non-woven material. When used on an absorbent product, the laminate has perforations (42) at least within a portion of the area of the intermediate non-woven strip (26). The invention also relates to a process for manufacture of the sheathing laminate.

Abstract: Nonwoven material produced by hydroentanglement of a wet-laid or foam-formed fibre web. The material comprises a mixture of short plant fibres, in particular pulp fibres, and long hydrophillic plant fibres, where the major portion of the fibres presents a fibre length which is at least 10 mm, whereby the portion of long fibres is at least 1 weight-% of the fibre weight. The fibres were mixed with each other in the presence of a dispersing agent which allows a uniform fibre formation, in a wet-laid or foam-formed fibre web which has been hydroentangled with sufficient energy to form a compact absorbing material.

Abstract: A disposable, absorbent article such as a diaper or an incontinence guard includes an absorbent pad disposed between inner and outer casing layers. At least one of the inner and outer casing layers is made of an elastic material having areas from which material has been removed while leaving coherent material parts in order to impart different elastic properties to different parts of the material.
