  • Patent number: 9432997
Abstract: A mobile communications system including: at least one base station configured to communicate data to/from different terminal devices via respective of plural logically separate carriers of a wireless access interface; first and second terminal devices operable to camp-on to first and second carriers of plural carriers and to subsequently communicate data with the at least one base station via the first and second carriers. The first and second carriers support compatible synchronization signalling such that the first and second terminal devices both can synchronize with the first and second carriers to begin a camp-on procedure. Following synchronization with one of the first or second carriers to begin the camp-on procedure, the second terminal device is configured to determine whether or not to continue with the camp-on procedure in dependence on an aspect of physical layer signalling associated with a control channel of the carrier with which it has synchronized.

  • Patent number: 9326107
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for transmitting data to terminal devices in a wireless telecommunications system. The data may be user-plane data associated with a repeating Multimedia Broadcast/Multicast Services (MBMS) session to be transmitted using MBMS over a Single Frequency Network (MBSFN) in a network including at least one relay node supported by a donor base station. The scheme includes delivering the data from the base station to the relay node in advance of a scheduled transmission to terminal devices at a first time, and transmitting the data from the relay node to a terminal device at the first time. The relay node is further configured to store the data in a cache. The relay node may then retrieve the data from the cache in advance of a scheduled transmission to terminal devices at a second time, and transmit the retrieved data to a terminal device at the second time.

  • Patent number: 9288809
Abstract: An infrastructure equipment forming part of a mobile communications network to communicate data to/from mobile communications devices. The infrastructure equipment receives an indication of a relative type of data packets for communication via a communications bearer supporting a communications session of a mobile communications device, the indication to configure the communications bearer, to provide the communications bearer from the mobile communications device based on the indication, and to control communication of the data packets via the communications bearer based on the indication. By providing the indication, such as an indication the data packets are of low priority or are generated or received by a machine type communication application, the mobile communications network can control communication of the data packets from the communications bearer differently to data packets communicated via other communications bearer having a higher priority.

  • Patent number: 9288786
Abstract: A method of communicating data between a base station and a plurality of terminal devices in a wireless telecommunications system is described. The method comprises transmitting data from the base station to the plurality of terminal devices in a multicast transmission and transmitting response signals from the terminal devices to the base station to indicate whether or not the respective terminal devices have successfully received the multicast transmission. The use of a multicast transmission provides an efficient mechanism for communicating the same data to a plurality of terminal device, for example as might be desired in a machine-type communication network. In combination with this, the use of individual response signals, such as ACK/NACK signalling, from the terminal devices allows the base station, or other entity, to track which terminal devices have indicated successful receipt of the multicast transmission, and to instigate an appropriate re-transmission protocol accordingly.

  • Patent number: 9252938
Abstract: A telecommunications system including plural base stations and plural terminal devices to communicate over a radio interface having a radio frame structure including radio subframes each including plural symbols. At least one symbol in each radio subframe is used to support a physical shared channel and at least one symbol in each radio subframe is used to support a physical control channel associated with the physical shared channel. A symbol at the end of each radio subframe is used to support the physical shared channel for communication links between a base station and a terminal device operating in a full-duplex mode, but the corresponding symbol is used to support a separate physical channel, for example an additional low-rate channel, for communication links operating in a half-duplex mode. Transmission resources that would normally be idle in a half-duplex system as compared to a full-duplex system can be re-used for another channel.
