  • Patent number: 6854589
Abstract: A conveyor arrangement comprises conveying elements defining a closed loop path having portions with substantially differing slopes. Driving elements are arranged to drive the conveying elements around the closed loop path. A plurality of arm elements are pivotably connected to the conveying elements. Carrier elements are pivotably connectable to the arm elements. Guiding elements are arranged in the vicinity of the closed loop path. A follower member arrangement of the arm elements comprises a first engaging element (18-A) and a second engaging element. The first engaging element is forced in contact with a first section of the guiding element during a first part of the travel along the closed loop path. Similarly, the second engaging element is forced in contact with a second section of the guiding elements during a second part of the travel along the closed loop path.

  • Patent number: 6486482
Abstract: An arrangement and a method for irradiation of products by charged particles. The arrangement comprises a particle acceleration device and a radiation chamber, in which the products are irradiated from at least two sides, by that the particle beam is deflected with a scanning magnet and redeflected with redeflection magnets. The particle beam impinges on the products substantially parallel to the main normals of the surfaces of the products, which normals are positioned substantially perpendicular to the direction that the radiation axis has immediately before the deflection. An absorption means comprising a particle stopper is arranged in the space between the pole pieces of the redeflection magnets. A transport device for double-sided irradiation transports the products, which during transport are fixed to the transport device, through the irradiation arrangement.

  • Patent number: 6298115
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for calibrating a detector means intended for use in an apparatus for radiotherapy, characterised in that it comprises the steps of placing a patient in the radiotherapy apparatus with the part of the patient to be treated between a radiation emitting device and the detector means, applying a number of detectors on the patient, radiating the patient and the detectors, measuring the emitted radiation with the detectors in order to quantify the radiation dose, detecting the radiation emitted and passed through the patient by the detector means, whereby the detector means comprises a plurality of radiation detectors arranged as to detect the radiation beam, determining the value of the detected radiation from the detectors of the detector means, and relating the value of the detecting means with the measured radiation dose, thereby quantifying the radiation detected by the detector means.

  • Patent number: 6163242
Abstract: A transformer of a Tesla type, and energy supply and particle accelerator devices that include such transformers. The electrical transformer includes a primary winding, a secondary winding which is electromagnetically coupled to the primary winding, and is characterized in that the primary winding consists of one single turn. The transformer operates without any soft magnetic core. The single turn is formed by at least two sector segments of a rotationally symmetric body, over which segments a voltage is applied. Preferably, the segments are equal in size, the voltages are equal in magnitude and one end of each segment is kept at ground potential. In an energy supply and an accelerator according to the present invention, a switch controlling the application of the voltage over the primary winding has controlled turn-on and turn-off preferably is an IGBT switch.

  • Patent number: 5905646
Abstract: The invention relates to a power modulator of pulse transformer type. The pulse transformer includes at least one secondary winding and a number of primary windings. The primary windings share a common ground terminal, but each "hot" terminal is independently connected to a respective dedicated pulse generating module, which includes a pulse switch, such as an IGBT-switch, connected to an energy storage capacitor. The pulse switch is electronically controllable at turn on and turn off, and eliminates the need for Pulse Forming Networks. The electronic pulse switch control is preferably used in combination with pulse voltage droop-compensating circuits that connect the switches to the primary windings. Furthermore, the transformer design is such that each primary winding only surrounds a portion of the total magnetic core cross section, giving an effect of a fractional turn primary.
