  • Patent number: 6376855
Abstract: A horizontal scanning device capable of scanning a bar code label on an underside or on a standing side wall of an article is revealed. The device is made of a source of laser light; a rotatably drivable polygonal mirror with mirror surfaces for distributing in scan lines the laser light transmitted by the laser source; a number of fixedly disposed mirrors for reflecting through a window the laser light beam distributed by the polygonal mirror, wherein the polygonal mirror has at least one mirror surface in co-action with a fixedly disposed mirror and at least one laser light beam is directed through the window at the article, which line extends for at least a moment substantially vertically to that window and the projection of which onto the article moves substantially in the plane perpendicular to that window and through that vertical line; and a detector for receiving light scattered by the code.

  • Patent number: 6357661
Abstract: A scanning device for recognizing and reading bar codes is configured to have a housing that can be mounted on a scanning surface or beneath the scanning surface. The housing contains an internal scanning face unit, which includes a source of laser light, a rotatable polygonal mirror for reflecting the laser light, a plurality of fixedly disposed flat mirrors and a pick-up element for detecting radiation deflected by the bar code. This internal scanning unit can be arranged within the outer housing in four different positions, thereby creating greater flexibility with respect to the mounting of the overall housing.

  • Patent number: 6202928
Abstract: An optional device for reading and decoding bars of different reflectivity arranged in accordance with a barcode and adjoining one another. The device includes an optical scanning device for scanning the bars by a light beam, a sensor for receiving the reflected light beam and converting the latter into an electrical sensor output signal, a transition detector for detecting the level transitions of the electrical sensor output signal and a decoding device which decodes the scanned barcode on the basis of the output signals from the transition detector. The sensor output signal is fed to an amplitude averaging device and/or contrast averaging device, the output of which is connected to a decision device which controls the decoding device in such a way that reading and decoding of the barcode is carried out several times if the output signal from the amplitude averaging device and/or contrast averaging device is below at least a predetermined threshold value.

  • Patent number: 6196462
Abstract: Optical device for reading and decoding bars of different reflectivity arranged in accordance with a barcode and adjoining one another, comprising an optical scanning device for scanning the bars by means of a light beam, a sensor for receiving the reflected light beam and the conversion thereof into an electrical sensor output signal, a transition detector for detecting the level transitions in the sensor output signal and a decoding device which decodes the scanned barcode on the basis of the output signals from the transition detector. The transition detector is provided with a comparator and a flipflop connected to the output thereof. The sensor output signal is fed to one of the inputs of the comparator. The output of the flipflop is coupled via at least a number of first integrators to the other input of the comparator.

  • Patent number: 5979767
Abstract: An apparatus for scanning bar code on an article comprises a housing with a window; a laser light source for transmitting a laser beam which is disposed in the housing; a first mirror fixedly disposed in the housing for reflecting the laser light beam; a member mounted in the housing for rotatable driving and provided with second rotatable mirror; and a detector for receiving the laser light coming from the bar code reflected by the fixed mirror and the rotatable mirror and admitted via the window. The fixed and rotatable mirrors are disposed such that a pattern of a comparatively large number of relatively short scan lines partly overlapping each other is created as seen on the window.

  • Patent number: 5929423
Abstract: A method and apparatus for decoding one or more bar codes comprising a plurality of marks, the marks comprise one or more spaces and one or more bars. The method comprises the following steps: digitalizing electrical signals obtained from a pick-up for picking up reflected laser beams; deriving the width of bars and spaces from the digital signals; determining one or more mark values with a degree on the basis of the width of the spaces and bars found inside the mark or in the immediate vicinity of the mark; determining one or more information values with a degree from the mark values with a degree; and selecting the most probable information values for a bar code or part of a bar code using the determined information values.
