Abstract: A coated textile material, particularly for use as a durable filter fabric, is made from a textile substrate, such as a woven fabric, having a microporous coating of an elastomeric fluorocarbon polymer. The substrate may be formed from aramid or polyphenylene sulphide or glass fibres. The elastomeric polymer may be a vinylidene fluoride pentafluoropropene tetrafluoroethylene terpolymer. The microporous coating may be applied as a formed aqueous emulsion which is dried and mechanically crushed.
Abstract: A method of joining the ends of a papermakers fabric wherein machine direction yarns are fringed out at the fabric ends, yarn ends being laid across a pinned plate, and yarn ends being cut back so as partially to overlie the plate. Those yarns which extend across the plate are folded back to form loops beyond the edge of the plate and a thermoplastics matrix material is applied to the plate. The matrix material is made fluid by heating and, on subsequent cooling, forms an apertured end to the fabric which presents side-by-side, outwardly extending loops. The loops at the respective fabric ends may be interdigited to receive a pintle wire, thus to bring the fabric into endless form.
Abstract: An ENP belt for use in the press-section of a papermaking machine is disclosed which comprises a sheet-like body part (11) having integrally formed machine-direction ribs (12) extending outwardly from the surface therefrom, there being reinforcing yarns (16) in register with respective ones of some at least of the said ribs (12) and at least partially located therein. Cross machine direction ribs (15) extending between adjacent machine direction ribs may be provided, if desired.
Abstract: A filter module (12) is proposed which includes a multiplicity of tubes arranged in side-by-side disposition to provide an annular array of flow passages (16) disposed about a common centre (17). The tubes comprise a filter material, and the disposition thereof is such as to maximize the filtration area whilst minimizing space utilization. A plurality of filter modules (12) is arranged in stacked relationship, corresponding tubes of the respective elements being in fluid flow relationship and one end of the stack being closed by a bottom plate (33). Abstract: A deformable multi-layer fabric for use in forming heat resistant bodies is proposed which comprises a multi-layer fabric formed from carbon yarns, the yarns being provided in plural from in the warp and/or weft directions and preferably in plural form throughout the whole of the fabric. The warp yarns in each group C1-C12 exist in side-by-side disposition while the individual weft yarns of each group W1-W6 are subjected to a small degree of twist. The fabric is capable of ready deformation without cutting and facilitates the creation of complex shapes or profiles without reference to the warp direction thereof.
Abstract: The invention is concerned with a base fabric for use in the manufacture of a papermachine press-felt, the base fabric comprising a multi-layer endless woven fabric wherein the machine direction yarns of at least one fabric layer form interdigitated weft loops having a warp yarn therein, and thus define a seam, and wherein at least one further fabric layer exists. The further layer or layers may be continuous throughout the full longitudinal extent of the multilayer fabric, and are slit along the line of the seam after needling of a batt to the base fabric, or may be broken and the weft yarns woven tight about an extreme warp yarn.
