  • Publication number: 20160231280
Abstract: A technique facilitates monitoring of pipe, such as coiled tubing. The monitoring may be used to detect conditions which occur within the pipe itself or in components employed along an interior of the pipe. A magnetic sensor system is positioned along an exterior of the pipe, e.g. coiled tubing. During relative movement between the pipe and the magnetic sensor system, the magnetic sensor system monitors for the condition, e.g. change/abnormality, of interest. In some applications, the magnetic sensor system is used to monitor changes in a physical property of the pipe, and/or a component within the pipe, during a succession of operations employing the pipe.

  • Patent number: 5495238
Abstract: An electro-mechanical induction watt-hour meter has a rotatable disc and a projection on the base directed into the meter terminating in proximity of the rotatable disc. The projection is part of a pulse initiator system where a pulse signal is transmitted through a selected area of the base that is transparent to the signal. A signal is generated externally of the meter and chopped by rotation of the disc providing a pulse signal that passes through the base of the meter to a receptor external to the meter. The signal generator and the pulse signal receptor are both located in the enclosure defined by the base of the meter and the receptacle socket for the meter. The generated signal is disclosed as a light beam that, by way of light guides on the meter base, is directed to one side of the rotating disc and is directed by one light guide and to the other side of the disc where another light guide returns the chopped or pulsed signal to the receptor.

  • Patent number: 5073877
Abstract: A mechanical oscillator driven by drilling fluid flow pumped down a drill string bore is combined with sensors and controls to produce a downhole drilling fluid pressure pulse generator for use in drill strings for Measurement While Drilling (MWD) pipe bore telemetry.A fluid flow responsive valve designed to be put in continual motion by fluid flow is associated with a motion stop lock so that, on release, a discrete digital fluid pressure change is generated. A downhole instrument package controls the lock release in a timed sequence, so that a series of pressure changes represent information to be decoded at the earth surface to determine downhole parameters sensed by the instrument package. The active elements of the downhole system may be installed in the drill string or lowered as a shuttle package down the drill bore. The fluid pressure pulse generating apparatus can be classified as a fluid flow excited oscillator or an auto-cycling pulse generator.

  • Patent number: 4736644
Abstract: The tooth depth of a gear meshing with a worm wheel, such as used in an electricity meter register, is adjusted by providing a mounting plate for holding the shaft of the toothed gear having a limited range of motion for adjusting the distance of the gear from the worm. The toothed gear has one end of its shaft attached to a mounting plate having a J-shaped cutout provided along one edge. The shaft of the gear is mounted to the "hook" portion of the cutout. Movement of the J-shaped cutout in a direction within the plane of the mounting plate causes a corresponding change in the distance of the toothed gear from the worm, thus enabling the mesh depth between the gear and the worm to be easily adjusted. The arrangement has no moving parts and can be formed using a simple die-stamping process.
