Patent number: 12110892Abstract: A technique facilitates efficient well production in relatively low volume applications, e.g. applications after well pressure and volume taper off for a given well. According to an embodiment, use of an electric submersible progressive cavity pump is enabled in harsh, high temperature downhole environments. A pump stator facilitates long-term use in such harsh environments by providing a composite structure having an outer housing and a thermoset resin layer located within the outer housing and secured to the outer housing. The thermoset resin layer is constructed with an internal surface having an internal thread design. Additionally, an elastomeric layer is located within the thermoset resin layer and has a shape which follows the internal thread. In this manner, the elastomeric layer is able to provide an interior surface generally matching the shape of the internal thread of the thermoset resin layer and arranged for interaction with a corresponding pump rotor.Type: GrantFiled: August 20, 2021Date of Patent: October 8, 2024Assignee: Schlumberger Technology CorporationInventors: Peter Hondred, Jason Holzmueller, William Goertzen, Maxim Pushkarev

Patent number: 12106028Abstract: A method to design well trajectories includes determining dogleg severity as a function of inclination, and a corresponding rate of penetration performance of the tool by a hybrid model including physical modelling and machine learning correction. The method includes solving for optimal steering parameters to predict a dogleg severity as close as possible to a desired dogleg severity at a given inclination of the trajectory, which is repeated for dogleg severity and inclination combinations of interest. The rate of penetration for feasible points is also determined and a rate of penetration (or time-to-target) map can be produced. Potential trajectories are then evaluated relative to the map to estimate drilling time-to-target, and an optimal trajectory can be selected that has a lowest time-to-target while also being feasible for the tool and optionally avoiding risks or downhole obstacles.Type: GrantFiled: December 2, 2022Date of Patent: October 1, 2024Assignee: Schlumberger Technology CorporationInventors: Ali Ozbek, Riadh Boualleg, Ling Li

Patent number: 12098617Abstract: A system includes rotational ball seat (RBS), remote operated, and electrical/hydraulic sections. The RBS section includes a spring, a first internal sleeve, and an upper RBS. The remote operated section includes a lower rotational ball valve (RBV) disposed between second and third internal sleeves, and a setting sleeve operatively connected to the lower RBV. During miming-in-hole, the upper RBS is in a restricted position, and the lower RBV is in an open position. The spring compresses the internal sleeves, which sandwich the upper RBS and the lower RBV, until a shear event occurs. An inner diameter of the system closes to facilitate setting of hydraulic equipment. Thereafter, the shear event releases the spring, thereby pushing the internal sleeves, the upper RBS, and the lower RBV downhole, which rotates the upper RBS and the lower RBV into open positions, thereby opening the inner diameter of the system.Type: GrantFiled: November 19, 2021Date of Patent: September 24, 2024Assignee: Schlumberger Technology CorporationInventor: Michael Underbrink
